John Oliver has extended his Last Week Tonight<\/a> contract with HBO through 2027, meaning he\u2019ll be around when Paramount-Skydance potentially becomes his new business daddy. The Ellison-owned<\/a> behemoth agreed to delay<\/a> its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery (which owns HBO) until the settlement of pending antitrust suits by 11 state AGs<\/a> and the WGA<\/a>, or June 1, 2027 \u2014 whichever comes first. The extension of Oliver\u2019s contract puts Last Week Tonight in the middle of that delay, but the host isn\u2019t sweating it. Because he\u2019s in denial it\u2019s even happening. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Oliver said \u201cThat\u2019s the only way that we can really move forward, total denial.\u201d<\/p>\n Oliver isn\u2019t planning for a future that cannot be predicted. \u201cIn general, business grownups will say one thing before a merger happens and their behavior can be very different afterwards,\u201d he told THR. \u201cAgain, I only know this so deeply because we\u2019ve seen it happen a few times with this company. The rhetoric before a merger and the behavior after, that doesn\u2019t always match up. But there\u2019s nothing you can do, other than to make it clear that you\u2019re not going to be amenable to changes. I think we\u2019ve made that pretty clear over the year.
