SELLING the last Chevrolet Camaro Supercar in Triple Eight\u2019s possession to Garry Rogers<\/a> Motorsport was more than just another business transaction for Jamie Whincup<\/a>.<\/p>\n

News broke during the week that GRM will return to the championship in a one-off, at least for now<\/a>, at the 2026 Repco Bathurst 1000 fielding a wildcard entry for veteran James Moffat<\/a> and debutant Nathan Herne.<\/p>\n

The effort will come aboard the car shared by Craig Lowndes<\/a> and Zach Bates<\/a> in the 2025 Great Race.<\/p>\n

Triple Eight had for some time been eager to find a buyer for chassis 888A-068, and an opportunity came up when GRM\u2019s hopes to lease a Camaro from Erebus Motorsport hit a snag.<\/p>\n

Enter Whincup, who made his Supercars debut with GRM only to be sacked after a disappointing 2003 rookie season.<\/p>\n

Fast forward 23 years and GRM director Barry Rogers was heaping praise on Whincup\u2019s dealings<\/a> to facilitate their return to the grid.<\/p>\n

Asked if it was special in any way for him, Whincup concurred.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne hundred percent there was that extra factor there, no doubt,\u201d he told V8 Sleuth.<\/p>\n

\u201cLike of course, I\u2019m the CEO of Triple Eight and we needed to sell a car, but there\u2019s a personal element where they gave me a start in the sport.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou should always have good customer service with any customer, but of course I\u2019m going to add a little bit extra for GRM and make sure that customer service is A1 because of the respect they\u2019ve shown me over the years.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been publicised as a negative and I got sacked, the whole lot, but really at the end of the day, let\u2019s go right back to the start: I was a Formula Ford kid and I got an opportunity to drive a Supercar.<\/p>\n

\u201cReally, it\u2019s an awesome story, them getting back to Bathurst a year after the great Garry Rogers passed away, so we\u2019ll make sure they\u2019ve got a really good car and hopefully they have plenty of fun and get a result.\u201d<\/p>\n

Triple Eight\u2019s other 2025 Camaro Supercars are privately owned, with the Will Brown<\/a> title winner belonging to Earl Evans and Steve Blackmore, and the ex-Broc Feeney<\/a> car now in the hands of Peter Xiberras.<\/p>\n

The Banyo operation now runs Fords and is indeed the Blue Oval\u2019s homologation team and engine supplier.<\/p>\n
