(ABC News: Jason Katsaras)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Until now it&#8217;s just been individual birds that have been positively identified.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;But what we&#8217;re seeing now is spread between native birds, mainly silver gulls but also the greater crested tern.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Both of those are quite abundant species around our coasts, so we can expect that as they move around, we might see more of these outbreaks.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Australia currently has 54 confirmed cases of H5, with a large proportion detected in SA with 40 confirmed cases.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">There have been 10 cases in WA, two in NSW, one in QLD and one in Victoria.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A dead bird lying on grass\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/d96167b1c3d68b2665efe3d3eb90c1d3.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Dead and sick birds were found at Robe Marina in July.
