Portugal ranks fifth in the global ranking, behind nations such as Switzerland, Lebanon, Italy and Germany. The top 10 is rounded off by France, Qatar, Singapore, the Netherlands and Austria. <\/p>\n<p>Switzerland leads the ranking by a wide margin, with 115.45 grams of gold per citizen, valued at around $14,850. Lebanon follows, with 48.64 grams and $6,256 per inhabitant, whilst Italy and Germany both have figures exceeding $5,000 per citizen.<\/p>\n<p>Portugal\u2019s position becomes even more significant when compared with the global average. Gold reserves held by all the world\u2019s central banks amount to around $4.7 trillion, which equates to $568 per person.
