{"id":840926,"date":"2026-08-03T01:49:07","date_gmt":"2026-08-03T01:49:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/840926\/"},"modified":"2026-08-03T01:49:07","modified_gmt":"2026-08-03T01:49:07","slug":"jazz-darryn-peterson-thankful-for-jersey-assist-from-kyle-filipowski","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/840926\/","title":{"rendered":"Jazz: Darryn Peterson thankful for jersey assist from Kyle Filipowski"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Aug. 2, 2026, 5:14 p.m. ET<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Thanks to teammate Kyle Filipowski, rookie Darryn Peterson will begin his rookie campaign with the <a data-autotag=\"b47c1f60-983a-4f05-b662-93d89a8ac7dc\" href=\"https:\/\/sportsdata.usatoday.com\/basketball\/nba\/teams\/utah-jazz\/26\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">Utah Jazz<\/a> donning a familiar jersey number on the court.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Peterson wore No. 22 for much of high school and in college last season at Kansas because his father, Darryl, donned it in high school. However, it wasn&#8217;t certain he&#8217;d be able to rock it with the Jazz because Filipowski has worn it since he was drafted in 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The No. 2 overall pick said on draft night that he&#8217;d try to reach a deal with Filipowski to see if he would be willing to part ways with it. Filipowski agreed, and the two were able to come to terms for the jersey number, which Peterson confirmed on June 27.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">&#8220;It wasn\u2019t bad,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=izzV10Qu3_M&amp;t=298s\" data-t-l=\":b|z|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Peterson said<\/a> of the negotiation with Filipowski, who will wear No. 2 moving forward. &#8220;He wanted to keep it, but that\u2019s his first assist to me: He was willing to give me that, so I appreciate him for that. I\u2019m thankful that he did it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Peterson was a second-team All-Big 12 selection last season, averaging 20.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.4 steals while shooting 38.2% from 3-point range. He scored 20 or more points four times, including a 28-point effort on July 4.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Peterson displayed several of the traits that enabled him to be a top pick, including his playmaking, ability in the open court and strength in the paint.
