Hynes has been one of Cronulla\u2019s best as the side looks to emulate its grand final heroics of 2016. His combination with five-eighth Braydon Trindall has gone to a new level, with the side moving to nine wins from their past 10 matches \u2013 and the pair toppling a host of club records along the way.<\/p>\n
Hynes\u2019 first conversion on Sunday afternoon bettered his coach Craig Fitzgibbon\u2019s best streak of 26 straight goals, his third marked 29 straight \u2013 a Sharks club record \u2013 and his fourth bested Halligan\u2019s own record of 30. At 32 straight, Hynes currently sits level with Nathan Cleary\u2019s 2022 record, and is three shy of equalling the man known as El Magic.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Trindall set up two tries in the first half to surpass Hynes\u2019 2023 Sharks club record of 28 try assists in a season and finished with three for the game to lead the competition.<\/p>\n
The last missed conversion opportunity from Hynes came back in Round 18 against the Broncos. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt was an easy one too. I had a couple of shockers that night, so I knew I had to rectify those ones,\u201d Hynes said.<\/p>\n
Fitzgibbon \u2013 a noted goal kicker in his playing days \u2013 detected a slight whenever Hynes was backing them in from the right-hand side of the field. His playmaker made no hesitation in letting him know he was about to topple his own standing.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was warned,\u201d Fitzgibbon joked. \u201cAny bit of s**t they can put on me around here, I\u2019m copping it \u2013 don\u2019t worry.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe way he and Daryl worked together has been pretty impressive,\u201d added Fitzgibbon. \u201cDaryl is one of the best for goal kicking and he\u2019s doing a great job.\u201d<\/p>\n

For Hynes, Halligan has been the missing piece, and could play a vital part for the Sharks as they look to continue their winning ways.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s been huge, he really teaches you to trust your process and your routines and stick with it. When you do have a couple of misses, you just brush it and move on and go back to your process,\u201d said Hynes.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe gives me the world of confidence.\u201d<\/p>\n
That confidence arguably sets an ominous omen to the rest of the NRL. Hynes admitted the mindset that has helped him be a successful goal kicker is also transcending other parts of his game.<\/p>\n
It has led to calls the 30-year-old is having an ever better season than his breakout campaign as halfback for the Sharks in 2022, when he was awarded the Dally M. Hines admitted his game had improved markedly since 2022 around defence, running the ball, effort areas and saving tries \u2013 even if the highlights reel didn\u2019t show it.<\/p>\n
\u201cHeaps of it is mindset. It\u2019s just about sticking to the routine and going through your processes and trusting the process,\u201d Hynes said of his goal kicking.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s just about getting the ball, getting good contact on your foot, and watching it go over. I reckon there\u2019s been times where I\u2019ve missed maybe a couple of easy ones and it gets in your head. Realistically you\u2019ve just got to trust and back yourself, know you\u2019ve done the work and believe in your routines and kicking through the ball.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve worked really hard on mindset in all aspects of rugby league and life. I could say that [the mindset from kicking does help the rest of my game], it gives you confidence when you\u2019re knocking them over to be able to go out and score some more tries and knock over even more.<\/p>\n
