With great power\u2026 comes grave loneliness! Spider-Man: Brand New Day finally hit theatre screens last week, and expectedly stormed the global box office with gigantic numbers. Tom Holland<\/a> returned as a mentally bruised Peter Parker, who begins again because no one remembers who he is anymore. However, he remains the Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man, New York’s brightest hope against any and every threat.<\/p>\n

That is until he finds an enemy in a mysterious mutant named Jean Grey (Sadie Sink), who telepathically possesses innocent people, body-hopping to psych Spider-Man. Yet, she’s not able to enter Peter’s mind. As Parker is enlisted by the Department of Damage Control (DODC) to dismantle the new supervillain, he also has to grapple with his new reality; i.e. MJ (Zendaya<\/a>) and Ned (Jacob Batalon) have no clue who he is. In a bid to protect his loved ones, does Peter Parker sacrifice his own life? Let’s find out…<\/p>\n

After finding Peter’s letter to her, MJ confronts him. She tries to soften the blow by telling him she’s not the MJ he was in love with because she doesn’t even know him. Accepting his fate, Peter makes another discovery: MJ doesn’t remember anything while being possessed by Jean. This means that DODC Director Metzger (Tramell Tillman) lied to him. Thanks to Yelena’s (Florence Pugh<\/a>) intel, Peter learns that Sara (Olivia Booth-Ford), the mysterious name Jean shared before being imprisoned, was actually her sister who was kidnapped by the DODC. The only clue left telepathically behind by Sara was \u2018V-Max\u2019.<\/p>\n

At DODC’s headquarters, Metzger and his team experiment on Jean’s mind to find a way to extract her powers. During the ruthless interrogation, Jean realises that ‘V-Max’ was the fading text on the air vent above her cell, which is probably the last thing Sara saw before she died. Jean, enraged, freezes everyone within a radius except Peter, who remains immune to the mutant<\/a>‘s powers.<\/p>\n

Parker enters the premises to stop Jean and protect her, but the latter possesses the Hand ninjas, who brutally beat up Spider-Man. Overwhelmed, Peter removes the inhibitor and finally embraces his arachnid DNA, which makes him stronger than ever. He finally reaches Jean, who is on the verge of ending Metzger for good. However, Peter allows her to enter his mind, where she has a heart-to-heart with both her and Aunt May (Marisa Tomei). Realising that her superpowers don’t define her, Peter helps Jean deal with grief<\/a>.
