Ugandan boxer Abdul Aziz, grandson of former dictator Idi Amin, was disqualified after headbutting his English opponent, Damar Thomas, during their super-heavyweight bout at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.<\/p>\n

Following the fight, Aziz went on a rant accusing the judges and organisers of racism, claiming his disqualification was unfair.<\/p>\n

He alleged that his punches were not properly scored and insisted there was a deliberate attempt to eliminate him in favour of the English boxer.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you watch the previous fights of England, their boxers commit a lot of fouls. I land a heavy punch on him, they never count. Instead of counting, they deduct me. I am a Black African. He is in his homeland,\u201d Aziz said after the bout.<\/p>\n

Officials, however, clarified that Aziz was disqualified specifically for headbutting his opponent, which was considered a clear breach of boxing regulations and warranted the decision.<\/p>\n

Commonwealth Sport President Donald Rukare, who is also Ugandan, rejected Aziz\u2019s racism claims, stressing that the competition was conducted fairly.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe at Commonwealth Sport believe every athlete is treated fairly and in a non-discriminatory manner. We are inclusive. That is a field-of-play decision and something said in the heat of the moment,\u201d Rukare said.<\/p>\n

Aziz, who never met his grandfather, had been hoping to win Uganda\u2019s first Commonwealth boxing medal since Auckland 1990. A victory over Thomas would have guaranteed him at least a bronze medal.<\/p>\n

However, he had already received warnings in the previous two rounds and was trailing on all judges\u2019 scorecards before the disqualification.<\/p>\n
