Welcome to the August 3 edition of the women’s college flag football newsletter<\/a> here at Collegiate Flag Football. We will look at the various stories and happenings across the sport over the last week, between Monday, July 27, and Sunday, August 2, 2026. Dawson Community College (MT) will add a varsity women’s flag football team<\/a> for the 2026-27 academic year.<\/p>\n

Massasoit Community College (MA) will add a women’s flag football club team<\/a> for the 2026-27 academic year. The school will elevate the team to varsity status in 2027-28.<\/p>\n

St. Lawrence University (NY) will add a varsity women’s flag football program<\/a> beginning with the 2027-28 academic year.<\/p>\n

The NJCAA’s Alabama Community College Conference released its schedule for the 2026 fall season<\/a>. The season will begin at the end of the month on Thursday, August 27, with North Alabama and Calhoun Community College playing an exhibition game. The conference slate will start on Sunday, August 30, with six games. The regular season will wrap up on Sunday, November 8, with a quartet of games. <\/p>\n

In other scheduling news, the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (TX) is seeking opponents at the end of February 2027. Those interested should reach out to head coach Jay Osborne. More details are provided below.<\/p>\n

Dates: Any days between Wednesday, February 17 and Saturday, February 27, with a preference for Saturday, February 20 and Saturday, February 27.<\/p>\n

Location: Home or away, with a preference to stay in the southern US.<\/p>\n

Contract: Yes<\/p>\n

Opponents: Tri-match is optional, and UMHB is willing to play any varsity or club team from the NAIA, NCAA, and NJCAA.<\/p>\n

Details: Return trip preferred, with a 2-year agreement possible.<\/p>\n

Bryant & Stratton College in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, was named the NJCAA’s Flag Football Academic Team of the Year for 2025-26<\/a>. The Bobcats posted a team GPA of 3.62. Bryant & Stratton competed at the 2026 NJCAA Women’s Flag Football Invitational<\/a>, finishing third.<\/p>\n

NEW THIS WEEK: Binghamton University (NY) named Jeff Melesky as the inaugural head coach<\/a> for the women’s flag football program. Melesky previously coached at the NAIA’s Webber International University (FL), building the program from its inception in 2021. Melesky went 65-45 overall and 25-28 in conference games, reaching the postseason in five of his six seasons. Webber won the Women’s College Flag Finals over Alabama State this past season. Binghamton will begin competing in the 2027-28 academic year<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Bowling Green State University (OH) is seeking a wide receiver and defensive back coach<\/a> for its women’s flag football club team for the upcoming 2026-27 academic year. Those interested should reach out via the team’s social media account<\/a>. <\/p>\n

NEW THIS WEEK: Grand Canyon University (AZ) named Jensen Joaquin as the new head coach of the women’s flag football club team<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The Guimond Vukovic Group (GVG) is offering postgraduate opportunities for athletes seeking a one-year master’s degree in the United Kingdom. Scholarship opportunities are available for students with a GPA of 2.8 or higher. Athletes who wish to continue playing collegiate flag football, develop programs, build the sport internationally, or pursue coaching opportunities are encouraged to apply. GVG offers a free service to connect student-athletes with partner institutions in the U.K. The FAQ section on GVG’s website<\/a> provides additional information. This postgraduate opportunity is in the United Kingdom. <\/p>\n

Hawaii Pacific University posted a job description<\/a> for an assistant coaching position on the women’s flag football team.<\/p>\n

NEW THIS WEEK: Howard Payne University (TX) named Erick Jimenez as head coach<\/a> of the women’s flag football team. Jimenez has been active in the El Paso, Texas, football community, including helping launch a six-man tackle football team. HPU is scheduled to launch its program in the 2026-27 academic year<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Moorpark College (CA) posted a job description<\/a> for a women’s flag football head coach position. Moorpark announced a new program at the end of June<\/a>.<\/p>\n

NEW THIS WEEK: Saint Joseph’s College of Maine named Kayla Pierce as the inaugural head coach<\/a> of the women’s flag football program. Pierce previously coached the women’s rugby team at Robert Morris University (PA) since August 2024, and has been active in flag football with the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers and Slippery Rock University (PA). Saint Joseph’s will begin competing in the 2027-28 academic year<\/a>.<\/p>\n

San Bernardino Community College District (CA) posted the job description<\/a> for the women’s flag football head coaching position. The position will be for either San Bernardino Valley College or Crafton Hills College. Neither school has officially announced the launch of a flag football program.<\/p>\n

Union College of Union County (NJ) posted job descriptions for a women’s flag football head coach<\/a> and an assistant coach<\/a>. UCNJ has not yet announced the addition of a women’s flag football program.<\/p>\n

United States Sports University (AL) posted the job description<\/a> for a women’s flag football head coaching vacancy. USSU hasn’t officially announced a flag football program.<\/p>\n

NEW THIS WEEK: The University of Bridgeport (CT) posted the job description<\/a> for a women’s flag football assistant coach. Bridgeport will begin competing in the 2026-27 academic year<\/a>.<\/p>\n

University of Redlands (CA) posted the job description<\/a> for the women’s flag football head coaching position. Tatum Etchegoyen-Springer previously led Redlands to a 15-14 overall record in the last two seasons.<\/p>\n

The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh is seeking an assistant flag football coach<\/a> for the 2026-27 academic year. Those interested should contact head coach Deante Jefferson at jeffersond@uwosh.edu.<\/p>\n

NEW THIS WEEK: Webber International University (FL) head coach Jeff Melesky will depart to become the head coach at Binghamton University<\/a> (NY). Melesky led Webber since its inception in 2021, going 65-45 overall, 25-28 in conference games, and competing in the postseason in five of his six seasons. Webber announced that Collin Johnson will be the program’s next head coach<\/a>, after previously coaching flag football at Strawberry Crest High School in Dover, Florida.<\/p>\n

Westfield State University (MA) posted the job description<\/a> for the women’s flag football head coaching position. Westfield State will launch a club team for the 2026-27 academic year<\/a> and transition the team to varsity status in 2027-28.<\/p>\n

Four players from the University of Texas at Arlington<\/a> will compete at this year’s 2026 IFAF Flag Football World Championships. Quarterback Tessa Davis and wide receiver Amelie Prosser-Shaw will compete for Australia, center\/wide receiver Tomoyo Yagi will compete for Japan, and wide receiver\/defensive back Laura Hernandez-Sanchez will represent Spain. The IFAF World Championships will be held in D\u00fcsseldorf, Germany from Thursday, August 13, through Sunday, August 16. The top two teams from the men’s and women’s brackets will automatically qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. <\/p>\n

In a recent article, Inside Higher Ed takes a closer look at the growth of women’s college flag football<\/a>. Part of the sport’s rapid growth has been due to the backing from the National Football League. The NFL has committed millions to build up the youth level via NFL FLAG, while also pushing to get the sport sanctioned at the high school level in 23 states. Colleges have also added it as a way to boost enrollment and remain compliant with Title IX.<\/p>\n

The NAIA has adopted a new interpretation of an infrequently used eligibility bylaw<\/a> for women’s flag football. Beginning with the 2026-27 academic year, any player who participates in a professional-level women’s tackle football league will be charged with a full season of eligibility. The athlete will also require additional evaluation to ensure they meet the NAIA amateurism legislation. A similar ruling has been made for the men’s tackle football bylaw, with respect to sprint football participation.<\/p>\n

The 2026 NFL FLAG Championships saw a significant increase in viewership<\/a> compared to last year. The Boys U14 Championship averaged 631,000 viewers, while the Girls High School Championship had a record 1.12 million viewers (a 46% increase from 2025). ESPN showed 30 games across all its platforms in 2026, up from the 22 games shown in 2025. For all three days, 14.3 million viewers tuned into the NFL FLAG Championships.<\/p>\n

TMRW Sports named Populous as the architect for the venue<\/a> that will host the first professional flag football season. The inaugural season will use a modular venue and a single-host city<\/a>, but the location hasn’t been determined. TMRW announced that Transwestern will be overseeing the host city selection process. <\/p>\n

TMRW also announced that Champ Kelly will be the senior vice president of flag football<\/a> for the new professional flag football leagues. Kelly was an NFL front office executive for nearly two decades for the Chicago Bears, Denver Broncos, Las Vegas Raiders and Miami Dolphins. The pro flag football leagues are expected to launch in “late spring-summer” of 2027<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Mount Saint Mary College (NY) will host girls youth flag camp half-days<\/a> on Monday, August 3, Tuesday, August 4, and Wednesday, August 5. The half-day camps will run from 9 AM to 12 PM, are open to girls 9 to 13, and will be held on campus in Newburgh, New York.<\/p>\n

Olivet Nazarene University (IL) will host a flag football skills and drills camp<\/a> from Monday, August 3, through Wednesday, August 5. Coed camps will run from 4 to 4:50 PM and 5 to 5:50 PM daily for athletes in grades 5 through 8. A girls-only high school camp will run from 6:30 to 8 PM daily. California Lutheran University will host a women’s flag football elite recruiting camp<\/a> on Friday, August 7, from 9 AM to 12 PM. The camp is open to high school graduates in the classes of 2027 and 2028, as well as transfer athletes. The camp will be held on campus in Thousand Oaks, California.<\/p>\n

Wittenberg University (OH) will host Tiger Day<\/a> on Friday, August 7, from 10 AM to 1 PM. The day will take place at Benham Pence Student Center in Springfield, Ohio.<\/p>\n
