AARON Cameron<\/a>\u2019s hairy side-by-side moment with Chaz Mostert<\/a> that afforded him vital track position was inspired by Richie Stanaway<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The #3 driver stood tall to deliver a much-needed seventh-place result for the Blanchard Racing Team in the Sunday contest at the Perth Super440.<\/p>\n

Along the way was an eye-catching manoeuvre where Cameron got all crossed-up while pressing on in combat with Mostert as the latter exited the pits to start Lap 21.<\/p>\n

Cameron eventually finished one place behind Mostert, but credited that moment as crucial in not losing time.<\/p>\n

\u201cWatching the replay, I think I had more room than I thought to Chaz,\u201d he reflected to V8 Sleuth.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wasn\u2019t sure if he was going to try to squeeze me and having wheel-to-wheel contact there would have been disastrous, so I went a bit more left.<\/p>\n

\u201cI took inspiration from Richie Stanaway last year, if anyone remembers he went all four wheels over the gravel passing someone.<\/p>\n

\u201cI only got two wheels, so not as good, but I am trying to be more like Richie Stanaway.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is genuinely where I got it from, I watched it last year and was like \u2018that was pretty cool\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a lot more over the kerb when I landed, the steering wheel was not facing the right way when I landed, so that was minorly scary, but it sort of had to happen, otherwise we would have lost two or three seconds behind him on the out lap and the next laps coming.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat sort of stuff shapes your race.<\/p>\n

Stanaway will compete for BRT in the upcoming enduros with Cameron\u2019s teammate James Golding<\/a>. The Kiwi last year drove full-time for PremiAir Racing.<\/p>\n

Cameron, who was under the weather at Wanneroo, is now responsible for both of BRT\u2019s top 10 race finishes in the past four rounds.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s nice to feel like you\u2019re making progress in the tyre life department,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Also on the up is his race craft, after an incident-laden start to the year.<\/p>\n

\u201cI knew everything that was happening at the start of the year was going to eventually stop, and make some better decisions, and sometimes have a bit more respect from some guys,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think we\u2019re in a pretty good spot now. I love racing someone like Chaz, because he has obviously got lots of experience, I have an understanding of the way he wants to race, so it\u2019s really good.
