George R.R. Martin shared a personal update on his mental health Monday, revealing he struggled with \u201csadness and depression\u201d over the past year.<\/p>\n

The \u201cA Song of Ice and Fire<\/a>\u201d franchise author took to his blog<\/a> for the first time in nearly six months on Monday, sharing that any posts after February were written by his \u201cmighty minions.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cRemember me? It\u2019s been a while, I know.\u00a0My last blog post went up here on February 19,\u201d Martin wrote. \u201cThe posts that came after were made by my mighty minions. I am lucky enough to have a great staff of assistants\u2026 though even with their help, I kept falling further and further behind.\u201d<\/p>\n

As Martin went on, he admitted that \u201cthis year has been\u2026 stressful, to say the least.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo much has been happening, it\u2019s been overwhelming.\u00a0 Some great things, exciting things. Dreams coming true. But there have been nightmares too,\u201d he said. \u201cI have lost friends. Battled sadness and depression. The worst may be yet to come. I turned seventy-seven last September, and I tell you, getting old is no fun.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, Martin assured his fans that, amid these hard times, he\u2019s experienced \u201camazing times as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI suppose that\u2019s just life. Of course, I knew that. If you\u2019ve read my stories, you know that,\u201d he continued. \u201cSo much to post about\u2026 I will try and catch up some\u2026 and my minions will help\u2026 but my posts are likely to [be] short and rushed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Before concluding his update, Martin took a moment to celebrate HBO\u2019s \u201cA Knight of the Seven Kingdoms<\/a>,\u201d which he co-created with Ira Parker, nabbing nine Emmy nominations.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope to attend\u2026 but that depends on\u2026 well, on a lot of things,\u201d he concluded. \u201cI am proud of our team, and hope we take home a few of the statues, but I will confess that I was hoping we\u2019d get a few of the acting nominations as well. But there\u2019s always next year.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cA Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,\u201d which is based on Martin\u2019s \u201cTales of Dunk and Egg,\u201d received nominations for nine awards<\/a>, including Outstanding Drama Series. However, the drama\u2019s leads, Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell, were both snubbed in acting categories<\/a>.<\/p>\n

All of Season 1 of \u201cA Knight of the Seven Kingdoms\u201d is available to stream on HBO Max.<\/p>\n
