Aussie golfer Cameron Smith<\/a> says he will return to the PGA Tour<\/a> if LIV Golf<\/a> were to go under, though he remains hopeful the breakaway league will survive.<\/p>\n

Acknowledging the uncertainty surrounding the tour\u2019s future<\/a>, the former world No.2 said returning to the PGA Tour would be an inevitable move.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf it was the only option, I think that\u2019s where everyone would want to \u2060be for sure, 100 per cent … it would go back to old times,\u201d Smith told media in New York.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want it to work, really, to be honest. It\u2019s great fun out here. The team that we\u2019ve got, I feel like we make each other better, better people and better golfers.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d hate to see it go away. We\u2019ll see what happens.\u201d<\/p>\n

A major concern for Smith is the potential loss of LIV\u2019s momentum in Australia<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The annual Adelaide event has been a massive success, drawing 115,000 fans to become the highest-attended golf event in the country\u2019s history.<\/p>\n

For the popular Queenslander, he believes the league\u2019s presence has sparked a resurgence in the sport back home.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat we\u2019ve been able to do for golf in Australia is \u200breally quite important to me, junior golf, the Little Rippers, the event \u200cthat we have down there, the people it \u200cbrings out to showcase our great league,\u201d Smith said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt would be a shame for all that to go away, and I feel like \u200cwe\u2019ve worked really hard over the last three or four years to kind of make that all happen.<\/p>\n

\u201cAustralian golf is important to me. I think it [LIV] improves it. I think all the numbers are up. The memberships are up. Social play is up. I think that\u2019s in part because of us. So I think it would be a \u200cshame for Australian golf if it did go away.\u201d<\/p>\n

Smith conceded that players are still largely in the dark regarding where they will land if LIV Golf does not continue into the 2027 season.<\/p>\n

Saying players \u201cdon\u2019t know\u201d anything about the series\u2019 future, Smith revealed won\u2019t be making any decisions on his future right now, choosing instead to stick behind his current contract.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t really \u200cunderstand what is going to \u200bhappen – it\u2019s all \u200bup in the air,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like we\u2019re well-informed, but I feel like a lot of it is still up in the air. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t know. I\u2019m contracted to the end of next year, so I was expecting to play until the end of next year and renegotiate and hopefully go on.<\/p>\n
