{"id":845175,"date":"2026-08-06T04:08:11","date_gmt":"2026-08-06T04:08:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/845175\/"},"modified":"2026-08-06T04:08:11","modified_gmt":"2026-08-06T04:08:11","slug":"sean-mcvay-on-aaron-donalds-tryout-i-think-he-could-make-the-team","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/845175\/","title":{"rendered":"Sean McVay on Aaron Donald&#8217;s tryout: I think he could make the team"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Aaron Donald did not intend to create more comeback speculation, but the defensive tackle <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsports.com\/nfl\/profootballtalk\/rumor-mill\/news\/aaron-donald-had-tryout-with-rams-to-evaluate-how-he-felt-with-helmet-pads-on\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">did just that<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Donald worked out at the Rams\u2019 team facility with Rams equipment, requiring the team to report his visit as a \u201ctryout\u201d on the NFL\u2019s personnel notice Wednesday. <\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nfl.com\/news\/aaron-donald-works-out-for-rams\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Did it come across as a tryout<\/a>?\u201d Rams coach Sean McVay asked NFL Network. \u201cBest tryout we\u2019ve ever had.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think he could make the team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The third-time Defensive Player of the Year wanted to see how he felt in a helmet as he considers a return to the NFL after a two-year absence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was honestly our way of being able to get a workout with him within the parameters of what\u2019s necessary,\u201d McVay told NFL Network. &#8220;[Defensive line coach] Giff Smith said it\u2019s the greatest tryout he\u2019s ever had.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Rams\u2019 acquisition of two-time Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett in June prompted Donald to consider unretiring.<\/p>\n<p>Donald, 35, made 10 Pro Bowls in his 10 seasons and has 111 career sacks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Aaron Donald did not intend to create more comeback speculation, but the defensive tackle did just that.
