{"id":845323,"date":"2026-08-06T07:16:09","date_gmt":"2026-08-06T07:16:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/845323\/"},"modified":"2026-08-06T07:16:09","modified_gmt":"2026-08-06T07:16:09","slug":"williams-already-working-on-their-2027-formula-1-car","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/845323\/","title":{"rendered":"Williams already working on their 2027 Formula 1 Car"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Williams Formula 1 Team are already working on their challenger for 2027 after their FW48 turned out to be a flop, according to team principal James Vowles.<\/p>\n<p>Williams could not maintain the momentum from their fifth place in the 2026 Formula 1 Constructors&#8217; Championship where Carlos Sainz delivered two podiums for them in Azerbaijan and Qatar.<\/p>\n<p>Their FW48 was late and missed Barcelona&#8217;s private shakedown, and when it finally made its debut, it was overweight and woefully off the pace.<\/p>\n<p>In the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grandprix247.com\/f1-opinion\/hungarian-grand-prix-takeaways-the-return-of-the-champions\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Hungarian Grand Prix<\/a>, Fernando Alonso managed to beat both Williams in his upgraded Aston Martin AMR26, which, prior to that weekend, was the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grandprix247.com\/formula-1-news\/outside-line-can-adrian-newey-turn-the-worst-car-in-formula-1-history-with-the-amr26b-set-for-zandvoort\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">worst car on the grid<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That somehow shows the extent of Williams&#8217; plight with Vowles revealing that 2026 is a right-off since there are stuff in the FW48 which can&#8217;t be fixed, hence the shift towards next season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLots of changes for next year,\u201d Vowles told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.formula1.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Formula 1&#8217;s official website<\/a> in a recent interview. \u201cNext year is already being worked on, because it\u2019s the right thing to be doing at the moment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are some elements of this year\u2019s car we won\u2019t be able to dig out to the level of completeness that I want to. This year is about a couple of really nasty handling characteristics in the car, finding those and fixing them to create the right platform for the future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith it will come performance, but it\u2019s really about that focus of just getting some of the basics right to present a strong future,&#8221; he maintained.<\/p>\n<p>And despite the current situation Williams is in right now, Vowles is adamant that the future is bright after this setback.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of what we\u2019re doing right now is all directionally correct,\u201d he said. \u201cEven though it doesn\u2019t all translate to car performance immediately, with what we\u2019re doing to rebuild systems and structures, and focusing on some new ways of working that are going to be quite exciting, it will all come good.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur journey is one back to the front. This isn\u2019t going to be a work of six months or a year, but I\u2019m here for it.
