(ABC News: Matt Roberts)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">A month before the last rape, his wife recorded a conversation on her phone where she confronted Potter about the attacks and he admitted to doing them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The woman gave evidence that she made the recording to &#8220;convince myself never to go back to him no matter what happened&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Protecting the rights of victim-survivors to record \u2014 and use as evidence \u2014 confessions of abuse inflicted on them is a major milestone for domestic violence law in Australia, legal expert Melbourne Law School&#8217;s Heather Douglas said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The decision is important as it explicitly recognises that a lawful interest includes a right of bodily autonomy and integrity in the context of recordings,&#8221;  Professor Douglas said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Domestic and family violence is a violation of bodily autonomy and integrity.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2025-12-22\/domestic-violence-perpetrators-abuse-court-system\/106047916\" data-component=\"FullBleedLink\" class=\"RelatedCard_link__rsgR9 FullBleedLink_root__lTw_U interactive_focusContext__yRhc_ interactive_defaults__AKxUU FullBleedLink_showVisited__g3Xvz\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">How perpetrators use the court system to inflict harm<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP RelatedCard_synopsis__cFwMW Typography_sizeMobile14__u7TGe Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Jessica Seage fought for six years for the man who raped her to be convicted.
