AP Photo\/Kyusung Gong<\/p>\n<p>The Lions star will make $22.5 million per year under the extension.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The deal helped Gibbs <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/08\/04\/sports\/bijan-robinson-gets-75-million-falcons-extension-to-end-contract-drama\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">usurp the Falcons\u2019 running back Bijan Robinson<\/a> as the league\u2019s highest-paid running back after he signed a massive three-year, $66.75 million extension earlier this week.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Gibbs is already under contract through 2027 and was a hold-in at Lions camp this summer.<\/p>\n<p>Lions head coach Dan Campbell had said earlier this week that he was \u201canxious\u201d to get the star running back out on the field.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery day that goes by, that\u2019s another day that you feel like you miss with him and getting him out there with the guys and him doing his part.
