11:29pm: Quero will indeed be recalled from Triple-A, reports Francys Romero<\/a>.<\/p>\n

8:56pm: New White Sox catcher\u00a0Joey Bart<\/a> fractured the fifth metacarpal in his left hand tonight, the team announced. Bart was drilled by a 98 mph fastball from Red Sox reliever Erik Miller<\/a>, himself a deadline pickup. He was replaced by Drew Romo<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The immediate fracture diagnosis makes an injured list stint feel inevitable. Chicago could recall Edgar Quero<\/a> from Triple-A Charlotte yet again to split time with Romo. That\u2019s an underwhelming pairing which the White Sox specifically sought to upgrade by acquiring Bart. The unfortunate timing of today\u2019s injury leaves them without many alternatives while awaiting the return of Kyle Teel<\/a>.<\/p>\n

There wasn\u2019t a huge acquisition cost. The Sox traded<\/a> swingman\u00a0Duncan Davitt<\/a>, whom they\u2019d designated for assignment earlier on deadline day, to the Braves. Atlanta had Sean Murphy<\/a> on the verge of returning from the injured list and wasn\u2019t likely to carry three catchers. Bart should\u2019ve had a decent chance at the #1 job with the Sox until Teel returns from a high ankle sprain, hopefully in early September.<\/p>\n

Quero is the only other catcher on the 40-man roster. The Sox could turn to recent minor league signee Eric Haase<\/a> or look to the open market. Seattle just released\u00a0Mitch Garver<\/a>, while\u00a0Chadwick Tromp<\/a> elected free agency after being waived by the Orioles this week.<\/p>\n

They can also look to the trade market<\/a> for players who haven\u2019t been on a 40-man roster all season. Those aren\u2019t going to be any huge additions, of course, but players like Washington\u2019s\u00a0Riley Adams<\/a> and Cleveland\u2019s\u00a0Kody Huff<\/a> are having big Triple-A seasons and are still eligible to be traded.
