Yanchep is preparing to welcome their first koala joey in 15 years \u2014 with the suburb\u2019s national park sharing the very first glimpse of the baby.<\/p>\n

Last October<\/a>, a seven-year-old koala from Ballarat named Miffy was unveiled to the WA<\/a> public \u2014 arriving at the park alongside Louie and Franklin Doogsie, two young brothers from South Australia.<\/p>\n

Ten months later and it appears Miffy and Louie have found a true connection, with park rangers confirming several weeks ago the duo is now expecting a bundle of joy!<\/p>\n

Yanchep National Park senior ranger Phillipa Jarvis Carboon said the park\u2019s team was ecstatic about the baby.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s what we\u2019ve been working towards very definitely in all earnest for about the last six years, so it\u2019s a really big achievement,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a day that we weren\u2019t necessarily sure would happen \u2014 I\u2019m stoked. I\u2019m so excited. It\u2019s just brilliant.\u201d<\/p>\n

Excitement about the joey has only grown this week, with rangers finally able to catch their first glimpse of the park\u2019s newest addition.<\/p>\n

Cameras with infrared capabilities caught a sneak peek at the joey, who poked its head out of the pouch while Miffy had a late-night snack.<\/p>\n

Vets from Perth<\/a> Zoo will head to the park over the coming months to assess the new arrival, who is yet to be named, while Yanchep Park rangers continue to monitor Miffy.<\/p>\n

Ms Carboon said the arrival of the koala joey will greatly benefit the national park.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the first joey in 15 years, it will obviously bring a lot of people back to the park who maybe haven\u2019t visited for a little while,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe park will benefit from those people coming through and saying hello!\u201d<\/p>\n

The last koala born in Yanchep National Park was 15-year-old Koodah, who still resides in the park\u2019s colony today.<\/p>\n
