Porsche Cars Australia unveiled a unique Porsche 911 Turbo S this week, built to commemorate the brand\u2019s 75th anniversary in Australia.<\/p>\n
Inspired by \u2018the country’s expansive landscapes, dramatic contrasts, and the distinct character of the southern sky\u2019, the 911 Turbo S Land Down Under was a collaboration between Porsche Sonderwunsch, the Style Porsche team and Australian contemporary artist Werner Bronkhorst.<\/p>\n
For the first time on a Porsche in Australia, two new Chromaflair paint colours were developed. Applied by hand, the exterior finish transitions from Terra Australis Red across the lower body to Southern Cross Blue on the upper body.<\/p>\n
Angle and light influences a shift in colour between desert orange, dusk-sky blue, eucalyptus green and sunrise gold, says Porsche.<\/p>\n
Chromaflair pigments use ultra-thin flakes that aid the colour shifts. Seven layers of the paint is applied and requires more than 300 hours to complete at a cost of about $150,000. Not something you want scratch!<\/p>\n
For the first time at Porsche, a subtle painting technique introduces a \u201cghosting effect\u201d using Werner Bronkhorst\u2019s own font to reveal the number \u201c75\u201d within the paintwork on the roof \u2013 honouring both 75 years of Porsche Motorsport heritage and 75 years of Porsche in Australia.<\/p>\n
Wheels are the 20\/21-inch Turbo Exclusive rims, painted in Southern Cross Blue.<\/p>\n
At the heart of the new 911 Turbo S is Porsche\u2019s latest T-Hybrid powertrain, pairing a 3.6-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six with a compact 1.9kWh battery and electric assistance.<\/p>\n
The result is a combined 523kW and 800Nm, sent to all four wheels through an eight-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission.<\/p>\n
Porsche claims a 0-100km\/h sprint of just 2.5 seconds, while the benchmark 0-200km\/h dash takes 8.4 seconds. Not slow by any measure.<\/p>\n
Helping the Turbo S put that performance to the road are enormous 325-section rear tyres, standard carbon-ceramic brakes with massive 420mm front and 410mm rear discs, and a suite of active chassis and aerodynamic technologies.<\/p>\n
Despite adding hybrid hardware, kerb weight is kept to around 1737kg, while top speed is a claimed 322km\/h.<\/p>\n
Another Bronkhorst inspiration is under the rear spoiler (which automatically raises in Sport Plus mode or above 80km\/h), which reads \u2018See ya later mate\u2019.<\/p>\n
Originally from South Africa but now based in Sydney, Bronkhorst\u2019s artworks pair tiny, lifelike figures with bold, heavily textured abstract backgrounds.<\/p>\n
Back to the Porsche 911, the interior is treated to a combination of Dark Night Blue leather and Coolibah Brown, while seat centres have a paintbrush-style perforated design intended to replicate Werner Bronkhorst\u2019s brushstrokes.<\/p>\n
Australian Silky Oak wood inlays were hand finished and fitted to the dashboard and rear seat inlays.<\/p>\n
Topographical references to the Blue Mountains are printed across the upper dashboard and side trims, while numerous \u2018easter egg\u2019 representations of Australian animals and other signifiers hand-painted by Bronkhorst appear throughout the 911.<\/p>\n
The roof lining also has an embroidered Southern Hemisphere constellation map depicting the 1950 Uluru night sky in 1951, the year Porsche arrived here.<\/p>\n

The Porsche 911 Turbo S Land Down Under will be displayed at various locations to mark the 75th anniversary celebrations before being sold by auction for more than a million dollars.<\/p>\n
