Davis Thompson\u2019s albatross and Jordan Smith\u2019s hole-in-one highlighted an eventual third round at the Wyndham Championship, the final event of the PGA Tour\u2019s regular season.<\/p>\n

Americans Michael Brennan and Beau Hossler share the lead at 16-under par with Scottish Open champion Tom Kim only a shot back after matching Brennan with a seven-under par 63 on a day that once again involved disruptions because of lighting.<\/p>\n

Hossler is chasing a maiden PGA Tour victory, while Brennan must overcome his final round demons to nab an unlikely spot in the FedEx Cup playoffs.<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old was second after 54 holes at last week\u2019s Rocket Classic, while he was tied fourth with a round to play at the 3M Open a fortnight ago.<\/p>\n

Brennan fell to tied 15th and tied 24th with disappointing finishes the last two weeks and the monkey is well and truly sitting on his back.<\/p>\n

He needs to finish in a three-way tie for second or better to jump from 105th in the FedEx Cup standings into the top 70 to earn a tee time at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, it\u2019s really hard to stay in the present. It\u2019s easy to kind of think about the consequences of where you finish the tournament,\u201d Brennan admitted. <\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like I just kind of struggled a little bit with that more so at 3M than last week. Last week I really just kind of wasn\u2019t playing great golf on Sunday unfortunately, which that happens. But tomorrow I\u2019m going to try to keep it light and stay in the present as best I can.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added when asked about the consequences of a good final round: \u201cYeah, it would be huge. I mean, I would be playing in Memphis next week. I saw on the board projected with a win I would move to 47, which would be inside 50 and give me a good chance at staying there the following week. <\/p>\n

\u201cSee, I\u2019m already starting to think ahead to the BMW and that\u2019s a problem. We still have so much golf to play tomorrow. I\u2019m really looking forward to the challenge.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier in the day, Thompson\u2019s albatross was only picked up by the ShotLink cameras.<\/p>\n

The 27-year-old American, who is three shots off the lead and was involved in a rules drama as he was allowed to replace a cracked driver, holed out with an 8-iron to register a two on a par five.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, it\u2019s my second one. Other one was at Bay Hill, not in a Tour round but it was in the Palmer Cup on No. 16,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, I\u2019ve had two pretty good ones.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHoles-in-one are more exciting,\u201d he added. \u201cBut at the end of the day 3-under\u2019s better than 2-under so I\u2019ll take the albatross any day of the week.\u201d<\/p>\n

Smith, who is five shots off the lead, had what Thompson deemed to be the more exciting moment on the par 3 16th.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, no, it\u2019s great. Obviously it\u2019s nice that they were able to give back to charity and help that because obviously every little bit helps,\u201d Smith said. <\/p>\n

\u201cObviously silver lining of me getting a few points, and use them on a few hotels probably next year at some point.\u201d<\/p>\n
