{"id":849560,"date":"2026-08-09T22:10:16","date_gmt":"2026-08-09T22:10:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/849560\/"},"modified":"2026-08-09T22:10:16","modified_gmt":"2026-08-09T22:10:16","slug":"marcos-ambrose-talks-supercars-return-as-garry-rogers-motorsport-bathurst-1000-crew-chief","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/849560\/","title":{"rendered":"Marcos Ambrose talks Supercars return as Garry Rogers Motorsport Bathurst 1000 crew chief"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MARCOS Ambrose oozes excitement at the mention of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-354-Garry-Rogers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Garry Rogers<\/a> Motorsport\u2019s Repco Bathurst 1000 wildcard, which will bring the Tasmanian back to the Supercars pitlane for the first time in 11 years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A two-time champion, Ambrose has generally kept his distance from the main game since making his final few starts behind the wheel as a DJR Team Penske co-driver in the 2015 enduros.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 49-year-old has floated around the support category paddock in more recent times via Trans Am, where his Marcos Ambrose Motorsport squad <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/ambrose-rogers-join-forces-in-trans-am\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">officially struck an alliance with GRM for the 2026 season<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But come October, he\u2019ll be back for a shot at the Great Race as GRM makes a welcome return fielding a Camaro for Nathan Herne and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-24-James-Moffat\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">James Moffat<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m really happy to be part of it. I\u2019m just there as a cheerleader basically, just hanging out with Barry (Rogers) and just celebrating the day for what it\u2019s going to be,\u201d Ambrose told V8 Sleuth.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/superstore.v8sleuth.com.au\/products\/2026-repco-bathurst-1000-official-program?utm_source=website&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=buy-button&amp;utm_content=buy-button\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/2026-bathurst-1000-program.jpg\"\/><\/a> <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s just great to see GRM back in the Bathurst 1000.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He of course is understating his role in the program, having been named as Car #34\u2019s crew chief.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe team at GRM is incredible\u2026 wherever they want me to go, I\u2019ll help out where I can,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBut the team that\u2019s already in place there and the crew that work at GRM full-time, they\u2019re amazing people and they\u2019ve got it in hand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking to his relationship with GRM, Ambrose added: \u201cIt\u2019s more than a friendship, it\u2019s more than a partnership, it\u2019s something very special that we have got going on. I\u2019m just really proud to be part of the GRM crew.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/MW-Ambrose-207A7988-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-260441\"  \/>Pic: Mark Walker<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His former Stone Brothers Racing teammate Russell Ingall will also be lending a hand.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cRussell and I are good mates and we have been for years,\u201d said Ambrose.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHe has got a strong connection with Nathan, and Nathan is a great driver and a great person. We\u2019re just all there to help.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Asked about returning to the Supercars scene after all these years, Ambrose again was modest.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cLet\u2019s not get carried away, I\u2019m just there as a cheerleader.
