Brooks Koepka got a warm reception in his PGA Tour return; now he needs to shake off the rust in his game<\/a><\/p>\nIn his last five starts this year, with a chance to make some noise and gain points toward the postseason, Koepka withdrew from the Canadian Open, missed the cut at both the US Open and Scottish Open, tied for 28th at the Open Championship and was well down the bottom of the leaderboard today when he finished the Wyndham Championship.<\/p>\n
Koepka, 36, entered the week 86th in FedEx Cup points \u2013 the top 70 advance to the first event \u2013 and he shot 67-66 to start, but closed with 74-70 on the weekend, including playing the last five holes in four-over with a double-bogey on the last hole.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it\u2019s pretty pathetic that I can\u2019t get through,\u201d Koepka said. \u201cZero top-10s basically in two years. To be in the prime of your career and be as good as I think I am, I think that\u2019s very pathetic, disappointing. Just need to go home and completely re-evaluate everything.\u201d<\/p>\n
As has been the issue for most of the year, and Koepka acknowledged at Sedgefield Country Club, his putting has been his biggest Kryptonite. He ranked 28th in strokes gained\/total on tour, 52nd in off the tee, eighth in approach to the green but 116th in strokes\/gained putting.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know what the deal is, got zero confidence, can\u2019t putt,\u201d he said. \u201cI don\u2019t know. There\u2019s going to be a lot of changes here soon.\u201d<\/p>\n
Koepka said that he\u2019ll play in a couple events in Europe next, then will consider adding a couple PGA Tour \u201cFall\u201d events to his schedule. But for now, although disappointed to not be playing more the next few weeks, he said that his return to the PGA Tour has been mostly positive.<\/p>\n
\u201cHonestly, I\u2019ve loved it,\u201d he said. \u201cI feel fantastic. The reception\u2019s been great.
