Raiders star Corey Horsburgh is set to leave Canberra at the end of the season with his \u201cfrayed\u201d relationship with coach Ricky Stuart set to spark an early exit from the club.<\/p>\n

Stuart singled out Horsburgh in his post-match press conference on Sunday<\/a> after a brainfade from the prop led to his sin binning during the Raiders\u2019 heartbreaking loss to Newcastle.<\/p>\n

The defeat ended Canberra\u2019s finals hopes.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a f***ing brain explosion and (we) lost the opportunity,\u201d Stuart fumed over Horsburgh\u2019s shove to the face of Knights veteran Dane Gagai.<\/p>\n

NRL360 host Braith Anasta, who played under Stuart at the Roosters, was shocked that his former coach singled out one of his players.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was expecting Ricky was going to blow up about the sin bin but instead it was (directed) at Corey \u2026 You don\u2019t see that often,\u201d Anasta said on Monday night.<\/p>\n

Horsburgh is under contract with Canberra until the end of next season but reportedly desires to return home to Queensland.<\/p>\n

Canberra are understood to be willing to let him leave, dependant on whether any club who picks up Horsburgh takes on his 2027 contract.<\/p>\n

Code Sports reporter Brent Read revealed Stuart and Horsburgh have a \u201ctempestuous relationship\u201d.<\/p>\n

The pair famously didn\u2019t speak for several months in 2024 <\/a>when Horsburgh was dropped to reserve grade.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re at a point now where Corey is going to leave at the end of the year as their relationship has frayed so much and this has just highlighted it,\u201d Read said on NRL360.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been a rollercoaster for them and they\u2019ve reached the end of the journey.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019ve had a butting of the heads relationship, probably because they\u2019re very similar,\u201d CODE Sports colleague Dean Ritchie added.<\/p>\n

\u201cRicky was angry, passionate and he\u2019s entitled to pick out a player.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you go back and listen to all of Ricky\u2019s press conferences, 98% of them he defends his players but obviously he\u2019s had a gutful. They\u2019ve just been eliminated from the finals race.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brisbane Broncos have been linked to Horsburgh but salary cap constraints are likely to hamper any move, according to Read.<\/p>\n

The Perth Bears are also monitoring the situation, although their level of interest will depend on whether Junior Paulo ends up signing with the expansion side.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cCorey doesn\u2019t want to be there. He wants to be in Queensland and essentially, the Raiders don\u2019t want him there either so it\u2019s best if they both part company,\u201d Read said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a chance of going to Perth. It depends what happens with Junior Paulo.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019d love to go to the Broncos but I\u2019m not sure they have the money to fit him in. <\/p>\n

If that can\u2019t happen though, Perth is looking at him.
