Who gets Trump’s Truth Social posts first?<\/p>\n
US President Donald Trump knows the world hangs on his every word.<\/p>\n
A single social media post about tariffs, conflict in the Middle East or oil production can send stocks, commodities and currencies surging or plunging within seconds.<\/p>\n
Now, Trump’s media company wants to sell some investors a head start, with early access to his Truth Social posts for a subscription fee.<\/p>\n
The move has sparked legal and ethical questions, including whether it is appropriate for a company majority-owned by the sitting US president to profit from selling faster access to his market-moving statements.<\/p>\n
But some researchers say there may be an even bigger concern, with data they describe as “extremely suspicious” suggesting some traders could already be receiving information well before Trump’s posts appear publicly.<\/p>\n

I imagine the expectation that interest rates won’t move higher today is likely good news for many of those groups.<\/p>\n
Higher interest rates can, of course, be good news for those saving or wanting to generate income from term deposits, for example.<\/p>\n

The Reserve Bank lifted interest rates in February, March and May this year, but at its last board meeting in June, the cash rate was kept steady at 4.35%.<\/p>\n
Expectations are for more of the same today, with market pricing pointing overwhelmingly to a hold in August.<\/p>\n
The most recent inflation data came in cooler than many had forecast, leading to more forecasts shifting towards an extended hold by the RBA, or even cuts next year.<\/p>\n
And, of course, in recent months we’ve had more signs of the housing market easing back as well.<\/p>\n

ASX to edge lower<\/p>\n
Good morning everyone and happy Tuesday,<\/p>\n
Business reporter Adelaide Miller here to guide you through the morning on the markets blog.<\/p>\n
We have a big day ahead, as the RBA decides what to do with interest rates. We can expect a decision at 2:30pm AEST before RBA Governor Michele Bullock fronts the media at 3:30pm AEST.<\/p>\n
As for markets, the ASX is looking like it will start slightly lower, with Futures pointing down -0.2% to 9,177 points.<\/p>\n
The Aussie dollar is trading above 70 US cents.<\/p>\n
