Emerging in the late ’90s with a riotous fusion of rock, metal and rap, Limp Bizkit’s angsty anthems were a polarising force but became a blockbuster success with teenage millennials.<\/p>\n
Fronted by Fred Durst, songs like Nookie, Break Stuff, Rollin, and Mission: Impossible 2 theme Take A Look Around, were inescapable in the 2000s.<\/p>\n
Limp Bizkit were also never far from headlines; most famously, their 2001 performance at the Sydney Big Day where 16-year-old Jessica Michalik died<\/a>.<\/p>\n ‘I had her hand, then I let it go’: the Big Day Out loses its innocence<\/a><\/p>\n A confluence of factors during Limp Bizkit’s 2001 Sydney performance led to the death of 16-year-old Jessica Michalik. Eighteen years later, the anger and the hurt remain.<\/p>\n At 2012’s Soundwave festival, the band’s first Australian dates in 11 years, Durst dedicated their performance to Jessica and was joined by her father, George Michalik.\u00a0<\/p>\n Heavy fans will be thrilled to experience Spiritbox. Fronted by Courtney LaPlante, a vocalist capable of ethereal melodies and visceral screams, the Canadian metal group boldly mixed genre on their breakout 2020 debut album Eternal Blue.<\/p>\n Between that record and last year’s acclaimed follow-up, Tsunami Sea, Spiritbox have been feted in just about every way that still matters: magazine covers, festival billings, a ferociously dedicated fanbase and multiple nominations at Canada’s Juno music awards.<\/p>\n This marks Spiritbox’s second time touring Australia, following their 2023 debut as part of Knotfest. (Supplied: Alexander Bemis)<\/p>\n Simple Plan, Montreal’s premiere pop-punk exports and a staple of 2000s, are also at the top of the bill. Nearly 30 years after forming, the band still largely consists of the same high school friends, who’ve released six albums much loved by anyone who went through an emo phase in the 2000s.<\/p>\n Alexisonfire, yet another celebrated Canadian act, will mark the 20th anniversary of Crisis, their influential third album of bracing post-hardcore, by performing the record in full.<\/p>\n Similarly, Swedish punk group Millencolin will perform their 2000 album Pennybridge Pioneers \u2014 an international hit evidenced by its songs featuring in the blockbuster Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater video games<\/a>, as well as Penguins & Polarbears cracking triple j’s Hottest 100.<\/p>\n What about Aussie acts?<\/p>\n The biggest homegrown heavy name is resilient metalcore crew Polaris<\/a>, who are beginning work on new material to follow their first three ARIA-nominated albums.<\/p>\n Grinspoon, who’ve been touring rock favourites since the late ’90s<\/a>, are sure to draw big sing-alongs. Their addition follows frontman Phil Jamieson cancelling his current tour after a serious back injury<\/a> sustained mid-show.<\/p>\n You’ve also got Speed, the J Award-winning crew<\/a> who put Western Sydney’s hardcore scene on international radars<\/a> with their community-driven live shows.\u00a0<\/p>\n Loading Instagram content<\/p>\n Plus, Slowly Slowly, who’ve hopped from emo-rock<\/a> to pop-punk and even glossy electro-pop<\/a>, Brisbane four-piece Headwreck<\/a> and the Choirboys.<\/p>\n Best known for their 1987 pub rock hit Run To Paradise<\/a>, the Choirboys fill a legacy slot that has become Good Things tradition, occupied in previous years by James Reyne and Dragon.<\/p>\n Who else is playing?<\/p>\n Bad Religion, pioneers of a melodic take on hardcore that helped draft the blueprint that ’90s acts like Green Day and The Offspring drafted from, are billed to celebrate their “45 + 1 year anniversary.”\u00a0<\/p>\n The All-American Rejects will bring their alt-rock and pop–punk songbook to Australia for the first time in over 17 years, after having to pull out of last year’s Good Things festival.<\/p>\n There’s also The Devil Wears Prada, the Ohio metal group who, like the popular 2006 movie, take their name from the 2003 bestselling novel.\u00a0<\/p>\n Industrial metal trailblazers Ministry will make Good Things the Australian stop of their global farewell tour, ending a 45-year career.<\/p>\n Ringleader Al Jourgensen has stated he’s “f***ing done” after Ministry’s final live shows and upcoming 17th album Hate To Go (Take Out or Delivery).
