US Stock Futures Point Lower as Investors Parse Earnings, US-EU Trade Deal  <\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_4-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block finance-sc-block-html mntl-sc-block-html\"> U.S. stock futures are pointing lower as investors digest earnings from Walmart and review the latest trade agreement between the U.S. and European Union. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/terms\/s\/sp500.asp\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">S&amp;P 500<\/a>\u00a0futures are 0.2% lower after falling for a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/dow-jones-today-08202025-11794141\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">fourth consecutive session<\/a> Wednesday. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/terms\/n\/nasdaq.asp\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"3\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nasdaq<\/a>\u00a0futures also are slightly down after the tech-focused index shed 0.7% yesterday, while\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/terms\/d\/djia.asp\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"4\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dow Jones Industrial Average<\/a>\u00a0futures are lower by 0.3% after the blue-chip index closed fractionally higher yesterday. Bitcoin\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/markets\/quote?tvwidgetsymbol=btcusd\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"5\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">(BTCUSD<\/a>) is moving lower to trade at around $113,500. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note is little change. Oil futures are higher. Gold futures are lower.\n<\/p>\n<p>  2. Walmart Lifts Outlook But Stock Falls on Weaker-Than-Expected Profit  <\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_7-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block finance-sc-block-html mntl-sc-block-html\"> Walmart (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/markets\/quote?tvwidgetsymbol=WMT\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">WMT<\/a>) reported fiscal 2026 second-quarter\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/walmart-stock-slips-as-q2-profit-comes-up-short-11794479\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">profit that came in below expectation<\/a>, even as revenue and comparable sales topped them. The retail giant posted adjusted earnings per share of $0.68, below the $0.73 expectation of analysts surveyed by Visible Alpha. Revenue increased nearly 5% year-over-year to $177.40 billion, ahead of the $175.97 billion consensus, while U.S.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/terms\/c\/comparable-store-sales.asp\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"3\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">comparable sales<\/a>\u00a0growth came in at 4.3%, above the 4.1% projection. Walmart also raised its fiscal 2026 guidance for revenue and adjusted earnings per share. Shares of Walmart are more than 3% lower in premarket trading.\n<\/p>\n<p>  3.\u00a0US, EU Announce Framework on Tariffs and Investment  <\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_10-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block finance-sc-block-html mntl-sc-block-html\"> The U.S. and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/terms\/e\/europeanunion.asp\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">European Union<\/a> issued a joint statement announcing an agreement on a framework for trade and investment. The EU &#8220;intends to eliminate tariffs on all U.S. industrial goods and to provide preferential market access for a wide range of U.S. seafood and agricultural goods,&#8221; while the U.S. &#8220;apply the higher of either the US Most Favored Nation (MFN) tariff rate or a tariff rate of 15%&#8221; on EU goods. The framework builds on the agreement between the trading partners\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/us-reaches-trade-agreement-with-eu-11779845\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">announced in July<\/a>, including a European commitment to buy $750 billion of U.S. energy products.<\/p>\n<p>  4. Meta Freezes AI Hiring Amid Spending Spree, Report Says  <\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_13-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block finance-sc-block-html mntl-sc-block-html\"> Meta Platforms (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/markets\/quote?tvwidgetsymbol=META\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">META<\/a>) has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/meta-freezes-ai-hiring-as-surging-costs-raise-concerns-report-says-11794976\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">frozen hiring for its artificial intelligence unit<\/a> after the Facebook parent spent freely in an effort to lure some of the top tech talent, according to The Wall Street Journal. Meta has hired at least 50 AI researchers and engineers as it builds a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/meta-announces-formation-of-superintelligence-unit-amid-ai-recruiting-push-11764265\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"3\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201csuperintelligence&#8221; unit<\/a> to develop better AI applications, the Journal said. With Meta reportedly having offered <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/what-tech-ceos-are-paying-one-kind-of-employee-11765748\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"4\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">signing bonuses as high as $100 million<\/a> in an effort to poach talent, the Journal said some analysts are worried that Meta&#8217;s stock-based compensation costs would threaten shareholder returns. Meta shares are ticking lower in premarket trading.\n<\/p>\n<p>  5. CME Group, FanDuel to Offer &#8216;Event Contracts&#8217; on Financial Markets  <\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_16-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block finance-sc-block-html mntl-sc-block-html\"> Exchange operator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/terms\/c\/cme.asp\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CME Group<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/markets\/quote?tvwidgetsymbol=CME\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CME<\/a>) is teaming with Flutter Entertainment (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/markets\/quote?tvwidgetsymbol=FLUT\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"3\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">FLUT<\/a>)&#8217;s FanDuel to offer its users a way to make &#8220;event-based contracts&#8221; in the financial marketplace.
