Police have dropped all charges against Bondi terror attack hero Ahmed Al Ahmed, after previously accusing him of assaulting and intimidating his father.<\/p>\n

Mr Al Ahmed was charged in June over an incident said to have occurred at a home in Bankstown, south-west Sydney, in March.<\/p>\n

The 44-year-old previously pleaded not guilty to domestic violence assault and intimidation.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, in Bankstown Local Court, the charges were withdrawn after an agreement was reached with the defence team for Mr Al Ahmed to adhere to an AVO for 12 months.<\/p>\n

Defence lawyer Mohamed Sakr told the court the AVO was being accepted without admissions.<\/p>\n

A police prosecutor confirmed that arrangement, telling the judge the development came in light of the complainant’s retracted statement.<\/p>\n

The judge read out a list of conditions to Mr Al Ahmed, saying the AVO was a court order which governed his behaviour and the court expected it to be followed.<\/p>\n

The order prohibits him from assaulting, threatening, stalking, harassing or intimidating his father, as well as damaging any of his property or harming any animal that belongs to him.<\/p>\n

Mr Al Ahmed was shot multiple times during the Bondi shooting.<\/p>\n

Videos from the scene showed him attempting to wrestle a rifle from one of the two gunmen, Sajid Akram.<\/p>\n

Mr Al Ahmed was widely praised for his courage and was hailed a hero by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.<\/p>\n

A fundraiser to support him raised $2.6 million.<\/p>\n

‘Great outcome’, Al Ahmed’s lawyer says<\/p>\n

Outside court following the decision, Mr Al Ahmed said he felt “successful”.<\/p>\n

“The law has been served,” he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Al Ahmed thanked his lawyer, and said his focus now was on recovering from his injuries sustained during the December attack.<\/p>\n

“I’m still suffering from the pain … so I’m still in the treatment, physiotherapy,” he said.<\/p>\n

“I still have a good team of doctors who look after me.”<\/p>\n

Mr Al Ahmed would not be drawn on the relationship with his father, but said he was hopeful for “peace”.<\/p>\n

“I’m a free man,” he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Sakr said the past few weeks “had been a very stressful experience” for his client, and described the dropped charges as “a great outcome for all”.<\/p>\n

“My client was entitled to the presumption of innocence; that innocence is maintained,” he said.<\/p>\n

“His innocence is continued, his dignity is preserved and we look forward to what Mr Al Ahmed has next.”<\/p>\n

Two of Mr Al Ahmed’s brothers were issued with interim apprehended domestic violence orders to protect Mr Al Ahmed last month after they allegedly verbally threatened him over the phone.<\/p>\n

Hozifa Al Ahmed and Sameh Al Ahmed were granted conditional bail after being charged with using a carriage service to menace\/harass\/offend.<\/p>\n
