\n\tDaniel Day-Lewis<\/a> is officially out of retirement. And audiences are getting a glimpse at the three-time Oscar winner\u2019s grand return to acting in the first trailer for \u201cAnemone<\/a>,\u201d a family drama directed and co-written by his son Ronan Day-Lewis<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film, which marks Daniel Day-Lewis\u2019 first role in eight years, co-stars Sean Bean, Samuel Bottomley, Safia Oakley-Green and Samantha Morton. Per the official logline, \u201cthe Northern England\u2013set film begins as a middle-aged man (Bean) sets out from his suburban home on a journey into the woods, where he reconnects with his estranged hermit brother (Day-Lewis). Bonded by a mysterious, complicated past, the men share a fraught, if occasionally tender relationship\u2014one that was forever altered by shattering events decades earlier.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDaniel Day-Lewis\u2019 last movie prior to retirement was Paul Thomas Anderson\u2019s 2017 period drama \u201cPhantom Thread.\u201d The role earned him his sixth Oscar nomination for best actor. He previously won in the category for his performances in 1989\u2019s \u201cMy Left Foot,\u201d 2007\u2019s \u201cThere Will Be Blood\u201d and 2012\u2019s \u201cLincoln.\u201d Day-Lewis, considered one of the finest actors of the modern era, has also received a number of BAFTAs, Golden Globes and SAG Awards over the course of his career.<\/p>\n

\n\tThis is the second time that Day-Lewis has come out of retirement, as the actor previously took a hiatus in 1997 to become a shoemaker in Italy after appearing in Jim Sheridan\u2019s \u201cThe Boxer.\u201d He returned in 2002 to play Billy the Butcher in Martin Scorsese\u2019s \u201cGangs of New York.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAnemone,\u201d the feature directorial debut of Ronan Day-Lewis, will have its world premiere at the New York Film Festival.
