Her therapist asked what might be the worst that could happen. \u201cThe whole world could laugh at me,\u201d Gunn replied.<\/p>\n \u201cShe\u2019s like, \u2018Do you think that\u2019s reasonable?\u2019 I was like, \u2018Oh no\u2019,\u201d the Australian breakdancer says in the opening moments of a trailer for her upcoming Netflix documentary, Untold Raygun: Breaking Badly.<\/p>\n Dropping on September 1, the documentary\u2019s synopsis says that \u201cnobody, least of all Rachael Gunn, expected to be an Olympian\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cBut as Raygun\u2019s performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics went viral overnight, so did an avalanche of memes, misinformation, and conspiracy theories questioning how she ever got there.\u201d<\/p>\n The trailer shows Gunn\u2019s reaction to becoming a viral moment following her nil-scoring Olympic performance, which quickly became a worldwide meme.<\/p>\n \u201cThere was this frenzy,\u201d Gunn says in the trailer. \u201cIt was this growing monster … I know I\u2019m a dorky white woman who\u2019s an academic, and I\u2019m a big girl.\u201d<\/p>\n In December 2024, Gunn drew controversy after attempting to shut down a Sydney comedian\u2019s musical inspired by her Olympic performance<\/a>, with her lawyers citing copyright infringement over the name Raygun and her famous kangaroo pose.<\/p>\n A few days later, a legal letter emerged revealing Gunn also demanded $10,000 in legal fees<\/a> from the owner of a small Sydney comedy club that had planned to stage comedian Stephanie Broadbridge\u2019s show, Raygun the Musical.<\/p>\n Gunn responded to criticism, describing the dispute as \u201ca stressful time\u201d<\/a>. Meanwhile, Broadbridge continued her show without using Gunn\u2019s breakdancing name and the kangaroo pose.<\/p>\n Directed by brothers Chapman Way and Maclain Way, the duo behind Netflix\u2019s Wild Wild Country and The Kings of Tupelo, the Raygun documentary will be part of the streaming company\u2019s sport documentary series, UNTOLD.<\/p>\n With dozens of documentaries now under the UNTOLD umbrella, Raygun\u2019s will be one of three upcoming standalone stories told over three weeks.<\/p>\n In the Netflix trailer, Gunn\u2019s parents are asked if they ever associated the word \u201cOlympian [with] Rachel growing up?\u201d The breakdancer\u2019s mum replies \u201cnever\u201d, while her dad laughs, and adds, \u201cSorry, not the right reaction, is it?\u201d<\/p>\n Towards the end of the trailer, Gunn reflects on the way the online discourse surrounding her Olympic performance quickly turned.<\/p>\n \u201cSome of the memes were funny. Then the tone started to change,\u201d Gunn says, as online clips of people alleging on social media that the breakdancer cheated her way into the Olympics are shown, as well as screenshots of online hate.<\/p>\n \u201cIt just kept getting more crazy … I can\u2019t just be a meme.
