At a committal hearing in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday, the court was told the child had markings on their neck and appeared visibly upset immediately after the offences were said to have occurred. <\/p>\n
A number of other children were present at the time of the alleged assault. <\/p>\n
The alleged victim\u2019s mother, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, gave evidence at the hearing, telling the court she had a conversation with a woman close to her before taking the matter to police on November 24, 2025. <\/p>\n

The court was told police interviewed the child and pictures of the alleged victim were taken.<\/p>\n
Mr McGuire\u2019s defence barrister Kim Bryson conceded the case had sufficient evidence to go to trial.<\/p>\n
Magistrate Belinda Merrin partially denied a variation on Mr McGuire\u2019s bail, citing the \u201cextremely serious\u201d nature of the case.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is evidence which is consistent with the allegations of choking, namely marking on complainant child\u2019s neck,\u201d Magistrate Merrin said.<\/p>\n
\u201c(The child\u2019s) immediate demeanour was consistent with there having been something very upsetting having occurred.\u201d<\/p>\n
The matter will be heard in the Brisbane District Court at a later date. <\/p>\n
Mr McGuire retired from rugby league in 2023 after playing 259 games in 14 seasons in the NRL with Brisbane, North Queensland and St George Illawarra.<\/p>\n
