It\u2019s like a boogeyman<\/a>. A lot of people talk about the Strip like, \u2018You don\u2019t want to go there.\u2019<\/p>\n\u201cIt\u2019s like when you\u2019re a kid; you\u2019re trick-or-treating, and there\u2019s the haunted house. You\u2019re not trying to go over there.\u201d<\/p>\n
(The specific \u201chouses\u201d for which Las Vegas is notorious aren\u2019t necessarily haunted. But the operative word starts with the same sound.)<\/p>\n
Fernando\u2019s avoidance of the Strip comes from a basic desire to keep, as the clich\u00e9 goes, the main thing the main thing.<\/p>\n
\u201cLas Vegas is one of the entertainment capitals of the world,\u201d Mendoza told Silver. \u201cBut I have a job to do, and it\u2019s football. I don\u2019t have anybody that really relies on me, if that makes sense, so I can just be psycho about football. And then every once in a while, on an off day or night, I can go out to a movie and watch \u2018Spiderman\u2019 or \u2018The Odyssey\u2019 or something.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn Vegas, there is a lot to do, and sometimes it can be seen as activities that wouldn\u2019t be supporting a healthy football lifestyle. But there are different things that you can go see and do that aren\u2019t degenerative activities, per se. There are some great restaurants. But I\u2019m probably not going to be playing blackjack till late at night.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mendoza\u2019s comments further underscore the fact that both of the team\u2019s top two quarterbacks \u2014 Kirk Cousins and Mendoza \u2014 are among the least likely in the league to fit the image created by \u201cLas Vegas,\u201d and by the \u201cRaiders.\u201d<\/p>\n
Then again, Cousins recently got into a practice-field fight with Maxx Crosby.
