As the Dallas Mavericks hope to become playoff contenders going into Cooper Flagg’s second season with a healthy Kyrie Irving coming back, Klay Thompson’s future with the organization remains murky. <\/p>\n
Appearing on a recent Twitch stream with PlaqueBoyMax, Thompson explained he wants to be in a situation that allows him to “compete” for a title and “play a role on a team that can make a deep playoff run.”<\/p>\n
Thompson didn’t specify where that might be, but the Miami Heat have popped up as a team with interest in the five-time All-Star. <\/p>\n
The Athletic’s Christian Clark<\/a> reported on Aug. 3 that Miami is a “potential landing spot” for Thompson. <\/p>\n Clark added Thompson would “would welcome” a return to Los Angeles since he owns a home there and grew up in the area. The Lakers don’t have much flexibility since they are hard-capped at the first apron and only $8.1 million<\/a> from hitting that threshold. <\/p>\n The Heat, also hard-capped at the first apron, have a little more wiggle room with $10.4 million available. They also need to add more shooting around Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo if they want to join the upper tier teams in the Eastern Conference. <\/p>\n Dallas is in an interesting position because new president of basketball operations Masai Ujiri has not shown any indication he wants to break up the main pieces of this roster before seeing what it looks like with Flagg and Irving on the court together. <\/p>\n
