{"id":855728,"date":"2026-08-15T03:54:08","date_gmt":"2026-08-15T03:54:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/855728\/"},"modified":"2026-08-15T03:54:08","modified_gmt":"2026-08-15T03:54:08","slug":"terence-crawford-trainer-bomac-predicts-rolly-romero-vs-teofimo-lopez-hell-smash-him","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/855728\/","title":{"rendered":"Terence Crawford trainer BoMac predicts Rolly Romero vs Teofimo Lopez: &#8220;He&#8217;ll smash him&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Top trainer Brian \u2018BoMac\u2019 McIntyre believes one man will \u201csmash\u201d the other when <a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/boxer\/teofimo-lopez\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Teofimo Lopez<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/boxer\/rolando-romero\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rolando Romero<\/a> collide on August 22.<\/p>\n<p>The two welterweights will headline a Premier Boxing Champions event at Las Vegas\u2019 T-Mobile Arena, with \u2018Rolly\u2019 making a first defence of his WBA world title.<\/p>\n<p>It came as a sizable upset when <a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/news\/rolando-romero-drops-and-shocks-ryan-garcia-in-new-york\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">the American outscored Ryan Garcia<\/a>, who suffered a second-round knockdown and unanimous decision defeat in May 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, Romero has been upgraded from \u2018Regular\u2019 to full WBA champion, entering his maiden title defence after spending over a year out the ring.<\/p>\n<p>Even without the inactivity, though, many would consider the 30-year-old a clear underdog against Lopez, who is making his 147lb debut while also bidding to become a three-weight world champion.<\/p>\n<p>He is, of course, coming off a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skysports.com\/boxing\/news\/12183\/13501761\/shakur-stevenson-american-boxer-dominates-teofimo-lopez-to-become-four-weight-world-champion-before-calling-out-conor-benn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">wide unanimous decision defeat to Shakur Stevenson<\/a> in January, yet the result is perhaps more a reflection of Stevenson\u2019s brilliance than Lopez\u2019 lack of top-level credentials.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The Takeover\u2019 did, after all, manage to dethrone Vasyl Lomachenko and Josh Taylor at 135lbs and 140lbs, respectively, albeit with a series of less impressive performances hampering his elite-level status.<\/p>\n<p>While speaking on the <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/QrD0SvICkeE?si=c_rOM9rw1itimrFC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Last Stand Podcast<\/a>, however, Terence Crawford coach BoMac nonetheless revealed his prediction of an emphatic Lopez victory.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTeofimo gonna smash that dude [laughs]. I don\u2019t even know why they made that fight.
