The added functionality is a \u201cmuch requested, anticipated, and needed feature,\u201d according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/sonos\/comments\/1vqt0do\/theyre_here_ios_live_activities\/?\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">post Sonos shared to Reddit today<\/a> that was <a href=\"https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/2026\/08\/17\/sonos-just-launched-live-activities-on-iphone\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">spotted by 9to5Mac<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">While some features like displaying album art are not available, the Sonos Live Activity provides basic details and controls when listening to music or podcasts through a Sonos system without having to fully unlock your iPhone and open the app.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">Support for Live Activities and lockscreen controls similar to what\u2019s already available in the Android version of the Sonos app was teased by the company\u2019s CEO Tom Conrad <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-02-24\/sonos-plans-another-app-revamp-everything-we-should-have-done-the-first-time\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">during an interview with Bloomberg<\/a> last February. And following backlash to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/5\/14\/24156703\/sonos-app-redesign-new-ama-complaints\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">major Sonos app update in 2024<\/a>, support for Live Activities is off by default but can be enabled by navigating to both the Sonos app\u2019s preferences as well as the Sonos app section of iOS\u2019 settings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">Once it\u2019s turned on, the Live Activity will appear \u201cafter you initiate playback and then close the app\u201d and displays the name of the group or room where audio was last playing from and the title of what you\u2019re listening to. After playback stops, the Live Activity will automatically disappear from your lockscreen after 15 minutes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">Support for the Apple Watch and CarPlay is included, but while the Live Activity will be displayed on your wrist or in your car, the controls aren\u2019t supported there.
