{"id":859465,"date":"2026-08-18T09:38:09","date_gmt":"2026-08-18T09:38:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/859465\/"},"modified":"2026-08-18T09:38:09","modified_gmt":"2026-08-18T09:38:09","slug":"will-honda-power-yuki-tsunoda-into-a-new-career-in-indycar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/859465\/","title":{"rendered":"Will Honda power Yuki Tsunoda into a new career in IndyCar?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former Red Bull Racing and Racing Bulls <a href=\"https:\/\/www.formula1.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Formula 1<\/a> driver Yuki Tsunoda may be on the verge of switching to the IndyCar series in 2027.That is based on a recent report in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Motorsport.com<\/a> that claimed that the Japanese driver may sign with Meyer Shank Racing (MSR) to fill in a gap due to the departure of\u00a0Indianapolis 500 winner Felix Rosenqvist at the end of the current season.<\/p>\n<p>The fact that MSR is powered by Honda makes the possibility of Tsunoda, who has been backed by the Japanese manufacturer throughout his racing career, making the move quite realistic.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.grandprix247.com\/f1-teams-news\/true-or-false-yuki-tsunoda-to-replace-under-pressure-esteban-ocon-at-haas-f1-team\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Tsunoda<\/a>, currently a reserve driver for Red Bull Racing, has previously expressed his openness to give IndyCar a shot while insisting it all depended on the timing and how he felt about his future. He said:\u00a0&#8220;If I have an opportunity and I feel it\u2019s the right time, for sure I would love to.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I like the US itself, so I don\u2019t mind living here as well. But I feel like it&#8217;s not the time because I can\u2019t imagine driving at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, more than a two-hour race, and we do more than 200 mph or whatever every lap.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For me, it\u2019s scary. I can\u2019t imagine myself driving more than two hours and being in that car. I don\u2019t know. For now, I am not really aiming or thinking about IndyCar, but yeah, why not in the future?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mike Shank, one of MSR&#8217;s owners, told Motorsport.com when asked about the Tsunoda reports: \u201cWe have not decided anything yet. We are talking to everybody in every form of motorsports that are comparable or pertinent to IndyCar.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We\u2019re still vetting folks that are coming along and looking at all kinds of options,&#8221; Shank maintained.<\/p>\n<p>Should Tsunoda make the move across the Atlantic, he would not be the first Formula 1 driver to do so. Marcus Ericsson, Romain Grosjean, and Mick Schumacher have done the same.
