{"id":860166,"date":"2026-08-18T23:48:15","date_gmt":"2026-08-18T23:48:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/860166\/"},"modified":"2026-08-18T23:48:15","modified_gmt":"2026-08-18T23:48:15","slug":"leading-female-supercars-mechanic-sarah-abuawad-rejoins-tickford-racing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/860166\/","title":{"rendered":"Leading female Supercars mechanic Sarah Abuawad rejoins Tickford Racing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ONE of the leading women in the Supercars pitlane has returned home to Tickford Racing mid-season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After a six-month stint at the Blanchard Racing Team, Sarah Abuawad is back at Tickford.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hailing from Iraqi-Palestinian heritage, the young gun formerly was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-58-Cam-Waters\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cam Waters<\/a>\u2019 number two mechanic before heading to BRT at the start of this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She popped up at the recent Perth Super440 as Tickford\u2019s temporary crew chief, filling in for Cordell Muir, and will operate at the next two rounds (Ipswich Super440 and The Bend 500) as the number one on the team\u2019s main game wildcard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI couldn\u2019t be happier that she decided to come back to us,\u201d Tickford team manager Matty Roberts told V8 Sleuth of Abuawad.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/superstore.v8sleuth.com.au\/products\/1-18-scale-2015-pukekohe-6-ford-falcon-fgx-cam-waters-model?utm_source=website&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=buy-button&amp;utm_content=buy-button\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/ACD18F15F.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt was a bit unfortunate at the end of the year when she did leave us, we were all a bit upset, but glad that she\u2019s back.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cShe has slotted back in beautifully in between the race team and subassembly. We\u2019re just really enjoying having her back.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cShe definitely has a future being a number one in motorsport, so we\u2019d like to see her reach that goal and we\u2019ll do what we can to help her do that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The #5 wildcard Mustang will be driven by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-2866-Ben-Gomersall\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ben Gomersall<\/a> at both the Ipswich Super440 and The Bend 500, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-2798-Campbell-Logan\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Campbell Logan<\/a> coming aboard as co-driver for the latter.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/RGP-2026-Dunlop-Sydney-500-_25A8102-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-248292\"  \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-1568-Aaron-Cameron\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Aaron Cameron<\/a> and Sarah Abuawad celebrate a Sydney 500 podium.
