One of the biggest talking points this offseason has been whether the Detroit Red Wings<\/a> will move on from the Dylan Larkin era.<\/p>\n

Larkin made headlines shortly after the Red Wings\u2019 2025-26 season came to an end, asking for a trade<\/a>. The only caveat was that he would initially be willing to waive his no-trade clause only to go to three teams: the Florida Panthers,<\/a> Minnesota Wild<\/a>, or Vegas Golden Knights<\/a>. Larkin has reportedly since added<\/a> the Dallas Stars<\/a> to his list of destinations; no deal has been made yet.<\/p>\n

A wrinkle was thrown into the mix when Steve Yzerman stepped down as general manager<\/a>, with interim GM Shawn Horcoff not having authority to make any trades until a permanent replacement is found.<\/p>\n

On this week\u2019s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE<\/a>, Tyler Yaremchuk and Carter Hutton discuss why Larkin has yet to be traded away from Hockeytown.<\/p>\n

Tyler Yaremchuk: The Dylan Larkin situation was kind of the first bombshell of the summer. When you go back to the news of him asking for a trade, and you know, there\u2019s a few things that I think are complicating this right now. The first is that the Red Wings would eventually go on to make a change at the general manager position. Steve Yzerman\u2019s out\u2026Sean Horcoff is sitting in right now as the interim general manager\u2026.I\u2019m surprised that the Larkin thing hasn\u2019t happened, but once the Yzerman news broke and it was, \u2018Hey, Stevie Y\u2019s out, I guess I\u2019m not shocked that an interim GM is not allowed to trade the captain.\u2019 I also am a little bit surprised that with Yzerman kind of pushed out of the mix and out of the fold, we haven\u2019t heard anything about a potential conversation of, \u2018Hey, maybe Dylan Larkin is okay with coming back now that sort of the rift between him and Yzerman has been forced to come to an end.\u2019<\/p>\n

Carter Hutton: I think that does play a factor here, right? You think back to a few years ago where Dylan Larkin was very vocal at the trade deadline about them not adding pieces and not helping them win. There obviously is that friction, but, for me, it is just a tricky standpoint as a teammate. I think I take that from the player side, I know there\u2019s a lot of moving parts when it comes to contracts and new trade clauses and what you\u2019re going to get in return, but just from that locker room sanctuary of walking back in there after you asked for a trade and where you\u2019ve been, you\u2019ve been so vocal about it. I think it just frays that relationship as the leader of this hockey team.<\/p>\n
