Satellite images show a huge cloudband<\/a> stretching thousands of kilometres from east to west across Australia, where it\u2019s been bringing rain<\/a> all week to the inland regions.<\/p>\n

The cloud extends from the Indian Ocean off Western Australia<\/a> to the Tasman Sea.<\/p>\n

A massive cloudband extends across Australia, bringing steady rain to the inland.\u00a0Weatherzone<\/p>\n

Weatherzone reported<\/a> that falls of \u201caround 10mm\u201d had been recorded in regional South Australia<\/a> and western NSW<\/a> on Thursday.<\/p>\n

But far heavier falls were recorded in northern Tasmania<\/a> (118mm at Lake Mackenzie), while Daylesford in Victoria<\/a> received 43mm.<\/p>\n

\u201cRain is also falling where its least wanted in mid-August \u2013 namely in the mainland alpine region where the snowpack<\/a> at the ski resorts is taking a beating,\u201d Weatherzone\u2019s Anthony Sharwood wrote yesterday afternoon.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe rain could turn to snow at higher elevations overnight, but no significant accumulation is expected.\u201d<\/p>\n

Those alpine falls included 40.8mm at Mount Hotham and 38.6mm at Falls Creek in Victoria, and 25.6mm at Thredbo Top Station in NSW.<\/p>\n

The capitals of the affected states are forecast to stay largely overcast in coming days, but with only minimal rain, with most falls predicted to stay inland.<\/p>\n

The Bureau of Meteorology has picked out a somewhat wetter week for Sydney next week, with up to 10mm falling on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Weatherzone also reported that the inland rain would ease from today, with the weekend largely dry except on Victoria\u2019s coast.<\/p>\n
