{"id":863161,"date":"2026-08-21T12:08:08","date_gmt":"2026-08-21T12:08:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/863161\/"},"modified":"2026-08-21T12:08:08","modified_gmt":"2026-08-21T12:08:08","slug":"tony-bellew-names-the-most-ruthless-boxer-of-all-time-ive-never-seen-anything-like-him","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/863161\/","title":{"rendered":"Tony Bellew names the most ruthless boxer of all time: &#8220;I&#8217;ve never seen anything like him&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/boxer\/tony-bellew\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tony Bellew<\/a> has named one heavyweight as the most ruthless fighter of all time: a complete package when it comes to speed, movement and ferocity.<\/p>\n<p>When discussing the sport\u2019s most vicious fighters, many will instantly name Roberto Duran, who not only became a four-weight world champion but is also considered an all-time great.<\/p>\n<p>Known for his formidable style and attitude, \u2018Hands of Stone\u2019 defeated every fighter he had faced by 1980, when a unanimous decision victory saw him dethrone Sugar Ray Leonard for the WBC welterweight title.<\/p>\n<p>Duran then suffered an eighth-round stoppage defeat in their immediate rematch but, even so, he remained one of boxing\u2019s most intimidating characters.<\/p>\n<p>The same, of course, could be said for <a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/boxer\/mike-tyson\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mike Tyson<\/a>, who became the youngest heavyweight champion in history by <a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/news\/on-this-day-20-year-old-mike-tyson-savages-trevor-berbick-to-begin-reign-of-terror\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">dethroning Trevor Berbick with a second-round finish<\/a> in 1986.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Iron\u2019 Mike then produced arguably his most ferocious performance in 1988, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/sport\/the-balls-of-wrath\/2014\/dec\/01\/great-rounds-boxing-history-mike-tyson-michael-spinks-round-one\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">retaining his world titles with a one-round demolition job against a terrified Michael Spinks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking with <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/iLIaORCEt48?si=B8687HDBErTqjwWP\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fight Your Corner<\/a>, former cruiserweight champion Bellew highlighted this version of Tyson as a \u201cperfect machine\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat Tyson that goes in against Michael Spinks \u2013 terrifies him before they\u2019ve even got in the ring \u2013 and deals with the Michael Spinks who had just beaten Larry Holmes not once, but twice \u2026 I don\u2019t think I\u2019ve seen a more ruthless heavyweight in my lifetime.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the history of boxing, I don\u2019t think I\u2019ve seen a more ruthless fighter. The Mike Tyson who beat Michael Spinks and Trevor Berbick, I\u2019ve never seen anything like that.
