Now, the boxing community can only express its collective frustration. With a potential November showdown in the offing, Tyson Fury uncorked a verbal beatdown directed at Anthony Joshua and Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter. The reason? The financial incentive was tied to shifting the Battle of Britain to the United States.<\/p>\n
In the middle of the beef is the matter of money. Hearn stated that moving the fight across the Atlantic would wither Joshua’s payout due to American tax rates. As a result, he proposed a brand new list of stipulations to Sela, the event organizer. Fury doesn’t seem to want to delay or extend the negotiations, so he launched a public shaming campaign.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, Matchroom, led by Hearn, presented Sela with a new list of demands should the fight move to the US. These included assurances about transportation and a full payout of the remainder of Joshua’s earnings from his defeat of Kristian Prenga<\/a>. If their conditions cannot be met, Matchroom insists that the fight should take place in the United Kingdom, as originally planned.<\/p>\n While things began with a seemingly friendly negotiation, Fury escalated the situation with a post on Instagram<\/a>.<\/p>\n “It doesn’t look like they are going to sign the fight, and it doesn’t look like it is going to happen at all because Eddie Hearn and them want more money,” Fury said. “They have already had that much money off Turki Alalshikh over the last few years, Eddie and ‘AJ’; they have had boxing deals, they have had darts deals, they have had snooker deals, they have had everything.<\/p>\n “And yet they got the audacity to ask for more money from Old Turki. That\u2019s hideous. I\u2019ll tell you what, it\u2019s disgusting. Money-thirsty pieces of s—. It is what it is. It\u2019s the same old cliche a decade later. However, that usually happens when the fight is signed, not during the negotiation process. Then again, Fury’s insults about Joshua’s bravery could serve as motivation to get it signed and delivered.<\/p>\n Additionally, pressuring the fight to take place in New York could backfire on him from a public relations standpoint. Fury is a UK-based fighter, even living on the Isle of Man.
