Allen got to Mostert\u2019s inside at Turn 4 and ran side-by-side out of Turn 5, but left the Walkinshaw TWG driver no room on corner exit.<\/p>\n
The Toyota Supra went all four wheels off the track and lost out to Brodie Kostecki in the process and Matt Payne just a few turns later.<\/p>\n
Allen was assessed a five-second penalty, which relegated him to fifth behind Triple Eight duo Will Brown and Broc Feeney.<\/p>\n
Speaking post-race, Allen offered apologies to Mostert for the move and to his own Grove Racing team for bombing out of a podium.<\/p>\n
\u201cA bit unfortunate, but that\u2019s racing,\u201d said Allen on the Supercars broadcast.<\/p>\n
\u201cObviously, first thing, sorry Mozzie. I got a bit aggressive there.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt the same time, I feel like I had a really good move at [Turn 4].<\/p>\n
\u201cThe car was super fast. We did the two tyres and from my side, I was just so locked in to try build a gap because I knew the T8 boys were coming on four tyres, or most likely would.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it was obviously very marginal. We didn\u2019t get away with that one, so I\u2019ll note that down.<\/p>\n
\u201cA bit unfortunate to throw a podium away but sometimes that\u2019s racing and it\u2019s no one else\u2019s fault but mine.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Supercars drivers turned commentators James Courtney and Mark Winterbottom offered Allen some sympathy over the clash.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think Kai was in the right here,\u201d said Courtney.<\/p>\n
\u201cChaz staying on the outside of [Turn] 5 is always going to end badly. I think he\u2019s a little bit hard done by here.\u201d<\/p>\n
Winterbottom added: \u201cI agree. I\u2019m actually surprised about the penalty for that because that\u2019s 101 Queensland Raceway.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf someone\u2019s there and they\u2019re at your back wheel you just suddenly escort them off. It\u2019s the fact that Chaz has come to a stop.<\/p>\n
\u201cNormally you run side-by-side, you drag a bit of dust and go down to Turn 6.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think the fact that Chaz propped up a bit and lost two spots \u2013 it\u2019s the outcome, not the offence. I\u2019m on James\u2019 side actually, which is kind of rare.\u201d<\/p>\n
While Allen was happy to admit fault, he said he wouldn\u2019t have put himself in that position if he were in Mostert\u2019s shoes.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor me, I always never go to the outside because I know I\u2019m going to get pushed off. I thought it was interesting,\u201d said Allen.<\/p>\n
\u201cObviously there\u2019s a lot of grip on the outside of Turn 4, so I knew he was going to get the advantage, because I saw him and Will (Brown) do the same thing on Lap 1.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe ran off into the dirt, that part wasn\u2019t so bad, it was more the initial part when I pushed him onto the kerb as he came out of [Turn] 4, got a bit loose, and that\u2019s what got me the run.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s so hard. You\u2019re racing for sheep stations. We\u2019re all doing the same lap times and as soon as you get an opportunity it\u2019s like a shark when it smells blood.\u201d<\/p>\n
Allen will start Saturday afternoon\u2019s second race from fifth while Mostert lines up fourth.<\/p>\n
That is scheduled to start at 4:15pm AEST.<\/p>\n
