We got it, as Mark Mitchell committed to the Wildcats on Saturday, according to On3’s Joe Tipton.

Mark Pope and Kentucky have landed one of the biggest remaining pieces available, as the former Missouri Tigers forward is joining the Cats after receiving a temporary injunction that allows him to pursue a fifth season of college basketball.

Mitchell received his temporary injunction Friday in Louisville, allowing him to continue his college career after initially being ruled out of another season under NCAA eligibility rules. The ruling also opened the transfer portal for the plaintiffs through Friday, Aug. 28. Mitchell entered the portal shortly after receiving the ruling and quickly committed to Kentucky.

What a way to fill the final roster spot.

Kentucky could now have a starting five of Zoom Diallo, Alex Wilkins, Milan Momcilovic, Mitchell and Malachi Moreno. That group would give Pope plenty of scoring, shooting, size, physicality, and experience. Momcilovic can stretch defenses from the perimeter, Mitchell brings another versatile scoring option at the 4, and Moreno gives Kentucky a true interior presence at center.

And, of course, Kentucky fans now get the potential triple M&M combination of Milan Momcilovic, Mark Mitchell, and Malachi Moreno.

For Mitchell, this is another chapter in an impressive college basketball career.

The 6-foot-9, 230-pound forward was one of the top recruits in the 2022 class. According to 247 Sports, Mitchell was ranked No. 13 nationally, No. 3 among power forwards and No. 1 overall in Kansas. He was also a 5-star recruit according to Rivals and 247 Sports.

Mitchell chose Duke over Kansas, UCLA, and Missouri and immediately became an important piece for the Blue Devils. He started 35 games as a freshman and another 32 as a sophomore, averaging 9.1 points and 4.5 rebounds as a freshman before improving to 11.6 points and six rebounds as a sophomore.

His shooting efficiency also improved significantly, going from 46.9% from the field as a freshman to 54% as a sophomore. Mitchell helped Duke win an ACC Tournament Championship and reach the Elite Eight before entering the transfer portal following the 2023-24 season.

Mitchell ultimately landed at Missouri, returning closer to home and joining one of the programs that had previously recruited him.

His game continued to develop in Columbia. Mitchell averaged 13.9 points and 4.7 rebounds as a junior while shooting 50.5% from the field and earning All-SEC honors. He then took another major step forward as a senior, averaging 18.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 33.7 minutes per game while shooting 55% from the field and 38.8% from 3-point range.

Mitchell led Missouri in scoring, rebounding and assists while earning Second Team All-SEC honors and NABC Central District Second Team recognition.

Kentucky has already seen what Mitchell can do

If there is one team that knows how difficult Mitchell can be to defend, it is Kentucky.

Mitchell scored at least 20 points in all three of his career matchups against the Wildcats. As a junior, he recorded 22 points and seven rebounds against Kentucky.

During his senior season, Mitchell played a major role in Missouri’s 73-68 upset of Kentucky inside Rupp Arena, scoring 21 points and four assists while shooting 7/15 from the field.

Kentucky got its revenge in the SEC Tournament, defeating Missouri 78-72, but Mitchell nearly pulled off another upset. He exploded for 32 points, seven rebounds and one assist while shooting 13/21 from the field and 2/2 from 3-point range.

That performance showed exactly why Mitchell could be such an important addition for Pope.

Mitchell uses his size, strength, and physicality to attack defenders and finish through contact. He is at his best getting downhill, creating pressure around the basket and getting to the free-throw line. He also became a much better passer during his senior season, averaging 3.6 assists per game.

His biggest improvement came from 3-point range. Mitchell had struggled from deep during his sophomore and junior seasons, but connected on 38.8% of his attempts as a senior. While he has never been a high-volume 3-point shooter, that improvement gives Pope another player who can punish defenses when they collapse inside.

Mitchell’s physical tools and versatility also allow him to defend multiple positions, while his experience gives Kentucky another player who has already played more than 130 games in college.

There are areas where Mitchell can improve. Despite his size, his rebounding numbers have not always matched his physical tools, particularly on the defensive glass. He has also shown some turnover issues and has not consistently made a major impact defensively.

Still, the overall package is extremely intriguing.

For Kentucky, Pope is getting an experienced SEC forward who can score, rebound, facilitate, attack the rim, and space the floor. Mitchell has also already proven he can perform in big games against Kentucky and other high-major competition.

For Mitchell, Kentucky gives him an opportunity to finish his college career on one of the biggest stages in the country while playing in an offense that should allow him to showcase his versatility.

And for Kentucky fans, the potential starting five of Diallo, Wilkins, Momcilovic, Mitchell, and Moreno is certainly something to be excited about.

For Pope’s roster, it is hard to imagine a better way to put a final BOOM with Mitchell on the 2026-27 Kentucky Wildcats.

Did someone say one final BOOM to the 2026-27 Kentucky roster?
