He added that the audience was \u201cthe first people I have said this out loud to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s happening,\u201d he said of \u201cNational Treasure 3.\u201d \u201cI have not said anything before this, but you deserve to have the scoop. Nic gets hit by a bus, there\u2019s no \u2018National Treasure 3.\u2019 If I get hit by a bus, there\u2019s probably a \u2018National Treasure 3.\u2019 Welcome to Hollywood.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tReps for Disney and <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/nicolas-cage\/\" id=\"auto-tag_nicolas-cage\" data-tag=\"nicolas-cage\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nicolas Cage<\/a> did not immediately respond to Variety\u2019s request for comment<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tTurteltaub said that a script is already in the works, adding that \u201cto whatever extent we can, everyone\u2019s back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe first \u201cNational Treasure\u201d was released in 2004 and grossed $347 million worldwide by the end of its box office run. The adventure thriller starred Cage and Diane Kruger as two historians who become tangled in a plot to steal the Declaration of Independence, which is actually a map to a secret treasure buried by the Freemasons. Other cast members include Justin Bartha, Sean Bean, Jon Voight and Harvey Keitel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tA sequel, \u201cNational Treasure: The Book of Secrets,\u201d was released in 2007 and exploded to $459 million worldwide. Disney+ also released a \u201cNational Treasure\u201d TV series, \u201cEdge of History,\u201d which was released on the streamer in 2022.
