McCarthy<\/a> had an erratic start for the Minnesota Vikings, completing 5 of 10 passes for 81 yards in a <a class=\"relative text-plus-650 dark:text-plus-350 underline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nfl.com\/games\/ravens-at-vikings-2026-pre-2\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" data-headlessui-state=\"\" target=\"_blank\">13-3 preseason loss<\/a> to Baltimore on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy played four series with the second-team offense before yielding to 11-year veteran <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" class=\"relative text-plus-650 dark:text-plus-350 underline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nfl.com\/players\/carson-wentz\" target=\"_blank\" data-headlessui-state=\"\">Carson Wentz<\/a>, leaving the picture unclear about who will be the No. 2 quarterback behind <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" class=\"relative text-plus-650 dark:text-plus-350 underline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nfl.com\/players\/kyler-murray\" target=\"_blank\" data-headlessui-state=\"\">Kyler Murray<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to keep giving those guys opportunities,\u201d said coach Kevin O\u2019Connell, who\u2019d planned to give McCarthy a little more playing time but decided to pull him after a couple of hard hits left him walking gingerly off the field.<\/p>\n<p>The 10th overall pick in the 2024 draft, who missed his rookie year while recovering from knee surgery and was limited by 10 starts last season because of multiple injuries, misfired to open receivers multiple times.
