The Marvel Cinematic Universe<\/a> has never been more unpredictable. After a handful of duds, including The Marvels<\/a>, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania<\/a>, and Captain America: Brave New World<\/a>, Marvel Studios is rethinking how it rolls out new movies and TV shows. While Marvel is riding high on the success of billion-dollar movies like Deadpool & Wolverine<\/a> and Spider-Man: Brand New Day<\/a>, it’s slowed its release pace considerably in recent years.<\/p>\n

In 2026, Marvel<\/a> hopes to get its reliable blockbuster franchises back on track with the release of Avengers: Doomsday<\/a>. After that, the studio has just one movie on the books for 2027: Avengers: Secret Wars, an event film that’s expected to be something of a soft reset for the MCU.<\/p>\n

In 2023, Disney CEO Bob Iger laid out a plan to reduce Marvel Studios\u2019 output<\/a> and focus on quality, and that mandate is evident in Marvel\u2019s upcoming theatrical slate. In fact, there\u2019s just one Marvel Studios movie slated to hit theaters in 2027: Avengers: Secret Wars. After that, things get pretty interesting, as Marvel Studios attempts a handful of sequels, reboots, and new superhero introductions in 2028.<\/p>\n

Marvel Studios\u2019 currently announced plans stretch out through 2029, when it plans to release a still unannounced movie. Here\u2019s every planned future Marvel Cinematic Universe movie and Disney Plus show currently announced and rumored to be in the works.<\/p>\n

2026 Marvel Studios releases<\/p>\n

VisionQuest<\/p>\n

Release date: Oct. 14, on Disney Plus<\/p>\n

Marvel is giving Paul Bettany\u2019s Vision his own post-WandaVision spinoff show, focusing on the duplicate White Vision who battled the original Vision in the finale of that series. (Well, Wanda\u2019s resurrected Vision\u2026 look, it\u2019s a little complicated.) Star Trek: Picard\u2019s Terry Matalas serves as showrunner on the series, which is slated for a debut on Disney Plus in October<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Joining Bettany in VisionQuest are James Spader, who returns as Ultron; Todd Stashwick as the bounty hunter Paladin; and Ruaridh Mollica as Tommy Maximoff\/Thomas Shepherd\/Speed, the son of Wanda Maximoff in a new body. Again, it\u2019s a little complicated! Faran Tahir reprises his role as Raza from the original Iron Man. There\u2019s also going to be a ton of robot\/AI people in VisionQuest, including T’Nia Miller as Jocasta, Emily Hampshire as EDITH, Orla Brady as FRIDAY, Henry Lewis as DUM-E, Jonathan Sayer as U, and James D’Arcy as JARVIS.<\/p>\n

Avengers: Doomsday<\/p>\n

Release date: Dec. 18, in movie theaters<\/p>\n

In 2026, Marvel Studios will return to its most successful sub-franchise, and also to the strategy that saw it close out Phase 3 with a pair of Avengers movies, Infinity War<\/a> and Endgame<\/a>. Originally announced as Avengers: The Kang Dynasty in 2022, the movie has undergone a big shift. It\u2019s now Avengers: Doomsday, and MCU veteran Robert Downey, Jr. will take on the role of Doctor Doom<\/a>, with Joe and Anthony Russo also returning to direct<\/a> what they\u2019re calling a direct sequel to Endgame.<\/p>\n

As revealed in an epically long Marvel Studios livestream<\/a>, the casts of Captain America: Brave New World<\/a>, Thunderbolts*<\/a>, Fantastic Four: First Steps<\/a>, and a bunch of Fox-era X-Men movies<\/a> will also appear in Avengers: Doomsday. In a series of teaser trailers, Marvel has also confirmed Chris Evans’ return to the MCU as Steve Rogers and Chris Hemsworth as Thor.<\/p>\n

Prior to Avengers: Doomsday\u2019s release in December, Marvel plans to rerelease Avengers: Endgame in movie theaters. That movie\u2019s encore theatrical run arrives on Sept. 25 and includes four minutes of new footage.<\/p>\n

The second season of animated series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, featuring the further adventures of a (non-MCU) Peter Parker and alter-ego Spider-Man, is coming in early 2027.<\/p>\n

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse<\/p>\n

Release date: June 18, 2027<\/p>\n

Sony Pictures Animation’s Miles Morales trilogy is set to (finally) conclude in the summer of 2027 with Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. Spider-fans will finally get to see what happened to Miles after the events of Across the Spider-Verse, in which Miles was left stranded in a reality different from his own, one in which he became the Prowler instead of Spider-Man.<\/p>\n

Avengers: Secret Wars<\/p>\n

Release date: Dec. 17, 2027<\/p>\n

Avengers: Secret Wars will close out Phase 6 and end what Marvel calls the Multiverse Saga, just like Avengers: Endgame<\/a> concluded the Infinity Saga. Again, characters from Marvel\u2019s other films will reappear in Secret Wars, and proven Avengers directors the Russo brothers will helm this one. The title refers to a cosmic comics crossover event about collapsing multiverses that could even herald a reboot of the MCU<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Plot details about Secret Wars are under wraps, obviously, and are dependent on the events of Doomsday. Whatever the case, it will be a major event for the MCU.<\/p>\n

Daredevil: Born Again season 3<\/p>\n

Release date: TBA, on Disney Plus<\/p>\n

Marvel Television\u2019s Daredevil: Born Again is getting a third season, which is expected to start filming in 2026. It\u2019s possible the third season of Born Again will arrive as early as 2027, if Marvel can keep to its annual season schedule. In addition to Daredevil and Jessica Jones, the third (and final?) season of The Man Without Fear’s Disney Plus show will bring back some other well-known Defenders.<\/p>\n

2028 Marvel Studios releases<\/p>\n

Marvel has brought a handful of 20th Century Fox-era X-Men actors into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, typically through multiverse shenanigans. Hugh Jackman\u2019s Wolverine, Patrick Stewart\u2019s Professor X, Ian McKellen\u2019s Magneto, Kelsey Grammer\u2019s Beast, Alan Cumming\u2019s Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn\u2019s Mystique, and James Marsden\u2019s Cyclops have all made (or will make) MCU appearances in projects like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, The Marvels, and Avengers: Doomsday. But a new era of X-Men is coming to the MCU.<\/p>\n

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige says<\/a> the new X-Men will be “a very youth-oriented, focused, and cast movie,” and the casting thus far confirms that. At this year’s D23, Marvel Studios announced the new X-Men are:<\/p>\n

The Spirit of Vengeance returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a new Ghost Rider movie<\/a> coming in 2028. Ryan Gosling (Barbie, Project Hail Mary) is Ghost Rider. Which incarnation of Ghost Rider? That’s still under wraps for now. Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine) is in charge of this one.<\/p>\n

Black Panther 3<\/p>\n

Marvel promised at the end of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever<\/a> that \u201cBlack Panther will return.\u201d Now, after Denzel Washington revealed<\/a> he\u2019s going to be in the next Black Panther movie, and Black Panther<\/a> director Ryan Coogler confirmed he\u2019s back for a third movie (after he gets his X-Files reboot out the door), we can finally call this one official. Where Black Panther 3 will go remains unclear, but the events of the two-part Avengers saga will likely have a pretty big impact.<\/p>\n

There’s one big change coming: Actor David Jonsson is the new Black Panther. He’ll be playing T’Challa’s son (also named T’Challa) in Coogler’s third outing to Wakanda.<\/p>\n

2029 Marvel Studios releases<\/p>\n

Untitled Marvel Studios Movie<\/p>\n

Release date: Nov. 9, 2029<\/p>\n

Marvel Studios has an untitled movie scheduled for Nov. 9, 2029, but hasn’t said what that project is. Marvel has teased plenty of sequels over the years, including a third Doctor Strange movie, a Shang-Chi sequel, and whatever’s next for Star Lord after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. We might also get a Fantastic Four sequel someday, but who besides Kevin Feige knows what 2029 holds?<\/p>\n

Announced Marvel Studios projects with no release date<\/p>\n

Marvel Studios will once again explore the cosmic side of the MCU with a new movie based on the superhero Nova. Screenwriter Michael Waldron is reportedly attached to write the movie. Waldron is a veteran of Marvel’s recent phases, having created Loki, written Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and co-written Avengers: Doomsday. A previous version of Nova was reportedly in development as a Disney Plus series, but that got scrapped.<\/p>\n

Nova is traditionally Richard Rider, a member of the Nova Corps \u2014 which already appeared in the first Guardians of the Galaxy and counts Glenn Close, John C. Reilly, and Peter Serafinowicz among its ranks. They’re an intergalactic police force, and Rider is one of their standout members.<\/p>\n
