That is the outcome of a detailed investigation into the failure of Chaz Mostert\u2019s B-spec engine during Sunday\u2019s race in Ipswich.<\/p>\n
The engine was stripped down at the Supercars engine shop in Brisbane today with a bottom end bearing identified as the issue.<\/p>\n
As such, the four Supras that ran the B-spec engine over the race weekend \u2013 those driven by Mostert, Ryan Wood, Andre Heimgartner and Cam Hill \u2013 will switch back to the A-spec for tomorrow\u2019s all-important pre-enduro test.<\/p>\n
That will allow Walkinshaw TWG Racing and Supercars to inspect the bearings on the other three engines, with the plan to have all five Supras back in B-spec by The Bend next month.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile these things shouldn\u2019t happen, within 16 hours of the race yesterday we had the engine stripped, root cause identified and way forward implemented which is a credit to our staff, and to Supercars as well who have worked alongside us on it,\u201d said Walkinshaw CEO Bruce Stewart.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a real positive element of a challenging situation.<\/p>\n
\u201cReturning to the A-spec engines for tomorrow is a precaution, as we inspect all B-spec engines, but it\u2019s important to note that this was not valve-train related, the area that was updated for this event.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll GR Supras on the grid at The Bend 500 will have a B-Spec engine fitted, as planned.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will continue to work around the clock to increase the reliability and engine
strength as we head into the endurance season.
