Five of Australia\u2019s\u00a0champions from the FIBA\u00a0U18 Asia will drop into to\u00a0Turkiye\u00a0from 26 \u2013 29 August for\u00a0Basketball Without Borders Next Up<\/a>,\u00a0a global scouting initiative\u00a0delivered\u00a0by the\u00a0NBA, FIBA\u00a0alongside\u00a0National Federations.<\/p>\n

The Aussie contingent\u00a0includes Asia Cup MVP\u00a0Yahya Basaran, high-flyers\u00a0Riak\u00a0Akhuar,\u00a0John Aryang, big Victorian\u00a0Will\u00a0Hamilton\u00a0and\u00a0prime\u00a0distributor\u00a0Antonio Browne.<\/p>\n

Over the week,\u00a080 of the top male high\u00a0school-age prospects\u00a0from around the world\u00a0will\u00a0compete and\u00a0train\u00a0across a four-day itinerary\u00a0at\u00a0Basketbol\u00a0Geli\u015fim\u00a0Merkezi\u00a0in\u00a0Istanbul.<\/p>\n

Peter Lonergan, GM of Performance Pathways\u00a0acknowledged the opportunity and involvement of the Australian quintet.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis\u00a0will be a unique opportunity for\u00a0our guys\u00a0to improve, be coached by FIBA\/NBA players and coaches and get to know other basketball players their age from across the globe,\u201d said Lonergan.<\/p>\n

Featured coaches and mentors at the summit include\u00a0Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Kenny Atkinson, NBA legend and former Yugoslavia Men\u2019s National Team member Vlade Divac, former NBA and Italian Men\u2019s National Team player Danilo Gallinari, 2021 NBA champion Brook Lopez (LA Clippers), 2021 NBA champion and three-time NBA All-Star Khris Middleton (Washington Wizards) and 2023-24 Kia NBA All-Defensive Second Team member Jalen Suggs (Orlando Magic). The roster of campers and\u00a0additional\u00a0coaches will be announced prior to the camp.<\/p>\n

In conjunction with the 25th\u202fanniversary of the BWB \u2013 the NBA and FIBA\u2019s global basketball development and community outreach program, in February the\u00a0NBA and FIBA\u00a0announced<\/a>\u202fthe\u00a0launch of BWB Next Up \u2013 two annual camps for the top 80 male prospects and top 80 female prospects from outside the U.S.<\/p>\n

Top-performing players will be selected to\u00a0participate\u00a0in BWB All-Star camps at the following NBA and AT&T WNBA All-Star.\u202f The inaugural Women\u2019s BWB Next Up will take place in fall 2026.<\/p>\n

More than 50 former BWB campers were among the\u202frecord 135 international players<\/a>\u202fon opening-night rosters in the NBA last season, including\u00a0All-Stars Deni Avdija (Portland Trail Blazers; Israel; BWB Europe 2018; BWB All-Star 2019), Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Oklahoma City Thunder; Canada; BWB All-Star 2016), Jamal Murray (Denver Nuggets; Canada; BWB All-Star 2015) and Pascal Siakam (Indiana Pacers; Cameroon; BWB Africa 2012).\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n
