Yuki Tsunoda<\/a><\/p>\nYuki Tsunoda continues to insist that Formula 1 is his priority, although his management is sensibly investigating what happens if Formula 1 does not return the compliment.<\/p>\n
The Japanese driver is seeking a full-time seat for 2027 after making a temporary return to the grid at Zandvoort. His message to undecided teams was typically direct: They should call me.<\/p>\n
At the same time, manager Diego Menchaca has reportedly spoken with several IndyCar organisations. Tsunoda says he has delegated those discussions and remains focused on proving that he belongs in F1.<\/p>\n
My main goal is to always be driving in Formula 1 and have success, he said. That’s always there, no matter what.<\/p>\n
There is, however, a limit to how long he is prepared to remain on the sidelines. Tsunoda does not want another two years spent watching from a team garage and accepts that another championship may become necessary if no F1 seat materialises.<\/p>\n
That makes IndyCar the obvious candidate. Its competitive depth, variety of circuits and emphasis on driver input have made it an increasingly credible destination rather than a ceremonial retirement home for former Formula 1 racers.<\/p>\n
Finding the right opening may be difficult. Many of the strongest 2027 seats are already occupied, although Meyer Shank Racing is understood to have a vacancy. Mick Schumacher has also been linked with that drive.<\/p>\n
Tsunoda is therefore pursuing two arguments at once. Publicly, he must convince Formula 1 teams that he remains wholly committed to their world. Privately, his management must ensure he is not left without somewhere worthwhile to race.<\/p>\n
There is no contradiction in that. It is simply what sensible drivers do when the paddock’s promises begin to outnumber its available cars.<\/p>\n
