\n\tJay-Z<\/a> discusses his life-long love of writing, rap\u2019s irresistible underdog energy, and more in the new teaser for his upcoming docuseries, JA\u0178-Z in 8<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe upcoming HBO<\/a> series finds Jay digging back into his catalog while in conversation with Rick Rubin<\/a> about his life, career, and music. While Jay has done this in various forms over the years, the black-and-white clip appropriately opens with Jay reciting one of his most famous lines: \u201cAllow me to reintroduce myself, my name is Hov.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFrom there, Jay talks about how he caught the writing bug at age nine and pontificates on hip-hop\u2019s enduring appeal, as well as its limitless potential. \u201cThe reason why rap is so loved \u2014 that feeling of that underdog,\u201d Jay says. \u201cThat\u2019s why people were listening, that\u2019s why it hit them somewhere.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe first two episodes of JA\u0178-Z in 8, which Rubin directed, will premiere on Sept. 18, with two additional episodes dropping every Friday through Oct. 9. The discussions in each episode will center around a handful of Jay-Z songs, selected by Rubin. For instance, episode one will feature \u201cIntro\u201d (off 2000\u2019s The Dynasty: Roc La Familia<\/a>), \u201cMeet the Parents\u201d (off 2002\u2019s The Blueprint 2<\/a>), \u201cCan\u2019t Knocks the Hustle\u201d (of 1996\u2019s Reasonable Doubt<\/a>),and \u201cWhat More Can I Say\u201d (off 2003\u2019s The Black Album).\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tJA\u0178-Z in 8 is part of Jay\u2019s massive, year-long celebration<\/a> centered around the 30th anniversary of his debut album, Reasonable Doubt.
