{"id":869611,"date":"2026-08-27T00:00:33","date_gmt":"2026-08-27T00:00:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/869611\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T00:00:33","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T00:00:33","slug":"snoop-dogg-biopic-finds-suge-knight-in-tre-hale","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/869611\/","title":{"rendered":"Snoop Dogg Biopic Finds Suge Knight in Tre Hale"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tTre Hale, who appears on Netflix crime show Nemesis, will portray infamous record executive Suge Knight in Snoop, Universal Pictures\u2019 biopic of entertainment mogul and rapper <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/snoop-dogg\/\" id=\"auto-tag_snoop-dogg_1\" data-tag=\"snoop-dogg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Snoop Dogg<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe feature has been on a casting tear as it heads toward a mid-September production start in and around Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tJonathan Daviss, one of the stars of Netflix series\u00a0Outer Banks, is portraying Snoop Dogg, who emerged from Long Beach, Calif. in the 1990s to become one of the biggest names in\u00a0rap.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tOther actors on the call sheet playing personalities that influenced Snoop Dogg\u2019s life include Myles Bullock Be as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/dr-dre\/\" id=\"auto-tag_dr-dre_1\" data-tag=\"dr-dre\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dr. Dre<\/a>, Camron Jones as troubled rapper <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/tupac-shakur\/\" id=\"auto-tag_tupac-shakur_1\" data-tag=\"tupac-shakur\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tupac Shakur<\/a>, Algee Smith as Warren G, and Lauren London as Snoop Dogg\u2019s mother.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tKnight was the larger-than-life co-founder of Death Row Records, the notorious record label that helped bring rap and hip-hop into the mainstream with albums by Dr. Dre, Shakur, and of course, Snoop Dogg. The label went downhill due to several factors, among them the high-profile departures of Snoop Dogg and Dre in the late 1990s. (Knight was later sentenced to 28 years in prison for manslaughter after a fatal hit and run in 2015 near a promotional shoot for the NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tCraig Brewer is directing\u00a0Snoop, which is being produced by Imagine Entertainment\u2019s Brian Grazer, the veteran producer behind the semi-autobiographical Eminem drama\u00a08 Mile, and the company\u2019s Allan Mandelbaum. Snoop Dogg and Death Row Pictures president Sara Ramaker are also producing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tUniversal will release\u00a0Snoop\u00a0on Aug. 6, 2027.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tHale was a series regular on AppleTV+ series\u00a0Platonic, playing \u00a0opposite Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne on the show.
